WARFRAME IS PAY TO WIN!!!

Don't worry guys, the title is bait. Honestly though, a lot of people seem to have this misconception that WarFrame is pay to win, it seems to be the only argument brought up a lot of the time, which begs the question. Do those that spout this nonsense actually play the game? Or did they see other users say it and followed suit like a sheep? If you are interested in learning the facts, WarFrame is not pay to win. WarFrame is unique, in that although you can pay real money for the premium currency and use that to buy guns and frames, you can get that currency for free at any point, not to mention everything bar a few cosmetics can gained ingame for free. It gives the impression that to a new player who has neither time nor energy to learn the game, that they will ultimately have to pay to, well, win. I have no issue with you or someone else to put some money in the game, it's free and it's a good game. But paying any money in this game does have some downfalls. It removes a portion of the grind depending on what you purchase, this is crucial as a lot of WarFrames way of acquiring guns and frames is to grind for materials or blueprints, and buying a frame may remove several days off of your overall play time. Don't get me wrong though, if you want to spend money, go ahead. I'm just outlining how WarFrame does not fall under the malpractice of pay to win. If you want to have a sensible debate about this in down below go ahead, just be aware that spouting "muh pay to win" or "muh destiny is better" will probably be looked down on as being imbecilic. G'day folks.
maybe I should do this more often

obligatory trending edit
Lets get some debates going! But seriously don't say any shit like "muh destiny is better" like some already have, it's just stupid, try and find points to support or destroy mine and others points. Edit: someone was adamant that because I didn't mention the grind that my point is invalid essentially. So here: WarFrame has a grind, a large grind that is much higher than Destinys or most other games. This constitutes to its difficulty. But the grind isn't so much that you have to spend money. If you can't handle the grind without spending money I would recommend you uninstall the game as you clearly do not have the time nor energy to play the game. Actually, I shouldn't need to mention the grind because those that read this should already be knowledgeable about the game and therefore the grind. If you don't know about these then you really shouldn't be commenting on this as you don't know much about the game or haven't played enough to form an educated opinion. The grinds big, yes. Bigger than Destinys, bigger than Destiny 2. But not impossible. Try just putting a bit of work into the game. Or maybe grinding games just aren't your forte. At which point you probably have a biased opinion

Oh no, it is pay to win.
It's also play to win. Invest your time and get attached to win. Feel satisfied with purchases to win. Build your own shit, and stab people with it to win.
Basically, it's just full of win. Because, no matter what, you, the player, win.

I have quite a few hours on Warframe I think it's an ok game and I can absolutely assure you it's pay to win. (Or pay to progress at the very least) But considering it's a free game I don't really care or mind that much at all.

    • What is the best clan frame to get? Currently have a Mag[14] Oberon[29] Frost Prime[30] Rhino[9](newest and really enjoying him) My clan has I believe all the frames you can get from the dojo. Curious as to which one people see as the best and why.

        • Warframe is a great game once you get into it. Its not the easiest of games to learn, but that's because there is so much to it. I have over 200 hours in it and I have 14 frames. 2 prime. Thats not even half way to get all frames. I still have weapons to get yet and now getting into collecting prime and riven mods. Pretty soon the new open world update drops for consoles and there will be even more things added. Weapons, mods, crafting and even fishing (weird). One thing Bungie can learn from DE is communication. Every month DE big honchos sit down with their community manager and talks about the good, bad and the ugly. They acknowledge their mess ups and also acknowledges their fans as being the most important thing to them next to their game. You don't have to like everything they are doing, but at least they give you explanations for why they are doing it, good or bad. As far as I'm concerned, DE gets my respect as a good developer with great fan community. Something Bungie needs to take notice.

          • Truth be told, I’m just not a big warframe player. When I started the only way You could explore was through missions that didn’t leave any real room. And the fact that most of the physical cosmetic items were behind monthly subscription fees turned me away. I might retry it someday, but that won’t be anytime soon :/

            • Warfram is pay to win, BUT you can do that when you are giving away your game for free. It totally makes sense. I have no problem with that.

              • I'm honestly thinking that the people who say Warframe is Pay-to-Win either: haven't played a pay-to-win game, or they have never played Warframe. Warframe isn't a pay-to-win game. At most, I would say that it's pay-to-look good, and even then, that's loosely putting it. Warframe does have a microtransactions portion of its game called the Market, and it does offer things that will get others ahead in the game, but it does not guarantee someone will "pay-to-win". When someone buys something from the Market, they can get a weapon or a warframe, but that warframe is no different than someone who grinds for the Warframe ingame (which, with Nekros, grinding is irrelevant with his Desecrate ability). DE also releases "Gift of the Lotus" events frequently enough that people will have enough golden and blue potatoes to not worry about running out of space for mods. If I had to give it to the people here who say "Warframe is a pay-to-win game" some defense though, the learning curve for Warframe is easily more difficult than the Destiny series. The beginning of the game is not meant for everyone, and it usually weeds out the less skilled players from the ones who want to learn to play the game. After a less-skilled player (like me!) gets past the learning curve, the game becomes absurdly simple to play. For the more impatient players who will refuse to sit down and learn to play the game, or sit down to grind the game, they can buy a warframe or weapon to just get past the grinding barrier/ Even with this though Warframe is not pay-to-win. I already mentioned this in a different thread, but free-to-play players can get some of the cosmetic stuff for free if they simply grind the game. It took a while, but when Baro Ki'Teer came out with Primed Flow recently, I dumped all the ducats, endo, and credits I had to get as many maxed out Primed Flows as I could and I sold them in the Trading chat. I made an equivalent to $50 real-world money in platinum in 5 minutes, and this is me as a player of Warframe who has not spent a single cent in this game. I went to town in the market buying cosmetics and colors, and now, I'm saving up platinum again to get that gundum-looking Nekros skin. But, back to the main point: The people who say Warframe is a pay-to-win game are separated into either of these two categories: They have never played Warframe in their life, or they have never played a pay-to-win game in their life. There's no gray zone in this, because I guarantee that anyone else who has played Warframe at least 100 hours will say the exact same thing I have said. On Steam alone, I have a little over 600 hours put into Warframe, and I've played it since before Specters of the Rail. Before Steam, I had only about 10-20 hours on Warframe. I know for sure that there has never been a "pay-to-win" aspect anywhere in this game. It could change in the future, but I can't see into the future.

Another question for the vets and more experienced. What is the best way to mod weapons? I'm confused how weapon damage is calculated. The slash, puncture, impact, and elements aren't the problem. I'm just curious how it seems like some people, I play with can burn enemies on Saturn, yet it seems like my weapons aren't doing much. Is this all mod related. They have better mods? Higher ranking mods? is there some hidden scaling issue I am unaware of? I'm just asking as I have the soma prime and it doesn't seem to do much on saturn. It's one of the first planet I have felt weak on too. Thanks for any input.

                              • When I first touched the game 3-4 years ago I saw the market and noticed all the micro transactions I thought, “ok this game is free so I should’ve expected it to p2w” and quit. About 2 years later I played it again and noticed how it wasn’t p2w it was pay 2 progress faster/convenience, I saw the weapon building requirements and saw how I as “capped” from obtaining other resources since I didn’t unlock the planets for them *cough* plastids *cough* so I assumed I wasn’t going far unless I coughed up some cash or spent an ungodly amount of time into it. Now that I’m back into it I realize the grind isn’t as bad as I initially thought (still really grindy tho) and it can be reduced with just some simple time management like farm for resources while trying to get a relic (and opening one if you get lucky with void fissure timing)

                                  • Warframe is a hybrid of pay to win, and not pay to win. It is more like a pay to win faster game. Even though some stuff you have to pay for, to can really get most of the items though grinding.

I like slow games though so I'm gonna get a lot of playtime out of playing for free. Thank you for bringing some important points to the table because people get turned off from "muh micro transactions"

Warframe is a free to play free to download game The only thing real money can do in Warframe is get you items... but guess what To actually use those items you need an understanding of the actual game money can’t buy you MR24 money can’t buy you experience and or lore. I’ve payed money for 2 prime access packs Oberon and valkyr Keep in mind I knew I’d use them to enjoy said game and I chose to support DE (the devs that are a team of about 100 people) Great devs+ Free game + Free updates = equals happy me who is willing to drop money to support the devs.... To simply put it Warframe from the ground up is my favorite game It’s an INSULT when I hear people calling it pay to win Ur not winning ur helping your friends and squad mates achieve things easier Pay to win is what COD BO3 was Thank the lord that game is dead Point being Give Warframe a dang chance all you h8Ers And enjoy it so what if you pay money for cosmetics or heck even weapons and frames ur not using them against other players but with therefore making it play to have max fun although I enjoy Warframe with my 0 plat rn so you know sometimes money ain’t everything And have a good day NCR :)

I get it. HOWEVER... Over time as I increased my MR level... I started to see the blueprints unlock and sold for credits. I started to have weapons made faster than I could level them.
