Advice for players complaining about trials

If you're not good enough to consistently be winning your 1v1's, don't take on 1v1's Stick to your teammates, do not play aggressively proactively, only if your teammates are clearly good and need you to play aggro with them, otherwise just play normally. These past few weekends I have witnessed tons of players either playing too aggressively against clearly better opponents and instantly dying, or playing too passively and not pushing with us when we are, costing us the round. Even if you are solo Q'ing, do not play as if you were alone. Learn to adapt to your random's playstyle, because you are relying on them to win. Also, for the love of God stop running into the strand clone. I have witnessed TONS of players actively run into my clone and get punished for wanting to ape with a shotgun in hand.

  • Better advice is don't play a Playlist that's toxic. There problem solved.

More importantly: If you’re complaining about someone’s negative KD and how they have the audacity to be in the playlist, remember that your 1.2 KD would not be a 1.2 if there weren’t players losing to you. Essentially, if they drop out, you take their place.

    • I lost a trials match today, but went positive. The better person on my team sent an invite. I accepted just for him to tell me I'm trash and to delete the game. I'm sure this happens to a lot of people, and is a reason why a lot of people don't want to bother. The toxicity of the good players kill the vibe of the whole game for some.

        • Abandon the gimmicky builds and master your weapons. Focus on easy to use utility builds. Dont go trying to stack your radiant with a dodge, while trying to proc cascade point but staying far enough away to utilize keep away, and trying to bounce knives off walls etc etc. Thats too much to manage if youre already struggling. Get a gun that feels good. Has straight forward perks and a build that helps you survive. Staying alive is your main focus here. As soon as someone dies the other team will advance and now you're scrambling.

        • I would throw connection into the mix here for this discussion. I'm on xbox and am predominantly put into PlayStation majority lobbies for some reason. I go from some games having good hit detection to games were my shots have no hit registration. It becomes very difficult to adjust your play style around this, where your shots don't do dmg but it feels like you get one shot. Worth thinking about

          • I love hearing the "stop playing" remarks..... You understand that doesn't solve the issue right? Smaller pools mean a higher chance of blow out matches. The smaller pools mean less match making options..... You can alter the match making sure. Rig it to be annoyingly specific perhaps. But overall. That match making won't do it's work.....without a player pool backing it. Something I learned when I put the breaks on playing this game for a while. Just play to enjoy yourself. No point in taking it seriously especially in PvP......you'll lose your mind that way. Win or lose eventually that reputation marker goes up and engrams will come out like a slot machine. There's plenty of ways to play in PvP overall and trials just makes things a bit more high stakes. You can be the guy who plays sacrificially. i.e. you lay down the damage or force the enemy to react and your team mates (hopefully) mop / clean up (not many do in my experience but I keep trying). Or you can sit back like 3 campers with tents hoping your enemy comes to you then it's a firing squad. I won't argue PvP is a shambles but make the best of it, Bungie has shown they don't care in a consistent enough manner as it is. If you're getting too hot headed. Step away. Care less an crack on with it.

            • ***snipped and reposted ***
OP: out of 18* matches (90 rounds) the teams I joined achieved L=12 matches vs. W=6 matches. As a member of The Senior Tortoise Squad, that’s a pretty good ratio (for me); though mostly, it was my slayer teammates that made the Wins possible. Thanks, teammates! 👌 I usually do bounties for Pinnacles and grind for engrams…I’d already got some juicy Summoner roles, was looking for one or two more Incandescent rolls, which I got…but not the one I wanted.✅✅✅ I play on a Mercy card…and don’t reset it. I’m doing bounties / engrams…not chasing a virtually flawless card, as that is unrealistic. 🫤 Not sure if this helps or not…🤔 Ease springs! 🫡 *typo
I’ve noticed a good few comments make rather disparaging remarks about teammates that are, say, sub 1.0…ie, players like me. I might be a feather duster today…though I was a bit of a rooster way back when! 😁 Trials / PvP needs more players to participate otherwise it’ll go the way of the dodo again. New Lights / blueberries / Casual gamers - should be welcomed with open arms…not disparaged, or made fun of, or scorned for entering a ‘no win’ scenario. Without them, there’s naught but dinosaurs in those game modes. FWIW: I’m a good support player, I’ve been playing long enough to know what needs to be done, ie, slay more, die less! But… Some matches - usually the first few, and then once in awhile thereafter, the matches are fairly balanced and a good scrap ensues. However, the majority of matches are against gilded flawless / unbroken teams with adept everything, recently being this standard loadout… Conditional / Igneous adept or summoner adept or prospector adept (the prophecy auto) / Trials GL On so many games, my weapons seem to have zero effect…yet the opponents’ guns never miss - even through walls or around corners!? Half the time, I don’t even see an opponent until s/he is on my back. Some teams are so fantastic that my whole team is kaput within 30 seconds! So many opponents appear to ‘never miss’ from places unseen…or when jumping around like a crazed flea…or sliding in from beyond Pluto to ‘conditional’ my bewildered rrrrrs!? So many sus players…teams…🧐 IMHO, P2P / lag / latency - are a big factor, but not every time. Div 1 - for 3.0 players Div 2 - for 2.0 players Div 3 - for 1.0 players Div 4 - for sub 1.0 players As a player gets better and crosses the Div threshold, they advance / decline accordingly. Div 3 / 4 players who attain 7 cumulative wins regardless of losses over a Trials weekend, go to the Lighthouse…with no restrictions or other limitations. Div 2 players get a unique shader / emblem set, and special armour sets. Div 1 players duke it out and get the black scarab emblem and new armour set; also, the top solo player and top solo team and top stacked team with the highest scores over the Trials event, get the ‘laurel leaves’ award…and their names indelibly inscribed on ‘The Wall of Fame’ in the Tower. Div 1 / 2 players don’t or shouldn’t need the best weapons to progress…however, Div 3 / 4 actually do! 🤔 If the a/m were put into effect, Trials would thrive! Play fair! Play nice! Be not a quitter. 👈 Ease springs! 🫡

              • Just make the engram drop rate higher so those who aren't good enough to go flawless get better chances at loot. Its what we all play the game for. Will be a greater population to farm yet sweats can still gatekeep their adept weapons, ships, glows. All I usually want is the armour and the weapons for collections, not arsed about adept or flawless as I'm no good at PVP, no longer have the reactions.

This is total nonsense. You’re more powerful when split up and nowhere close to each other. The safest way to deal with a 1v1 is to jump off the map. Don’t give them the satisfaction. And if there is a clearly dominant meta weapon, use a glaive and be original instead.

Just stick a fork in this mode and call it a day. It’s done, and no amount of incentivizing is going to fix it. It’s an utter failure that doesn’t even align with the principles of Destiny at large. Give prophecy a hard mode, and put the adept gear in there, and let it rotate weekly like trials already does, and watch your player numbers go up. Literally all you have to do.

                    • Wow...so much to unpack here. The original poster is giving sound advice. If you know you can't win a 1v1 then team shoot. I would say just be mindful when your team mate wants to come back to cover and don't get in his way and end up killing him. If you are Duo unfortunately you have to play off the solo blueberry with you. That is unless the 2 of you are really skilled players and can win with minimal assistance. If you are a trio and know you are not great at PvP in the first place DON"T get a Mercy Card. Instead get a Wisdom card. The new increase drop rates for trios is great and stack that with the extra loot of a Wisdom card. I assisted a duo last night for 2 hours and they had multiple weapon drops and 20 engrams at the end of the play session and we would win 25% of the time. I would say part of that was my fault cause I was on a persistence card. You don't NEED an adept weapon in Trials to win or even win your 1v1s. PvE mains you currently have access to some great weapons Quicksilver storm, Neco, Forerunner, Firefright. Until they nerf 450s you have Prosecutor, Ammit, Positive Outlook. I don't want to let the cat out of the bag on this one but Summoner has HORRIBLE recoil in the 1st 10 to 15 shots....If you can get your shots in beginning of the fight you have a better chance. If you not getting Adept weapons then try Persistance Card. I would like to see that tweaked a little but that will get you an Adept. The other thing is that 6s is a completely different world from 3s so if you want to get better at the game of Trials go play Comp. They are different but it is best practice when you can't play Trials. If you have issues winning your 1v1s go play Rumble, because you will have more 1v1s in that game mode. You have to take it on yourself to get better. Yes, It is very frustration when you have a teammate or multiple that are not good or keep dieing but that is the luck of the draw with doing a solo or duo match. You have to suck it up and deal with it or you can come in here and pout. It is also equally frustration when you get beat over and over and see on the Trials report 2k flawless.( I actually matched a 2k and 1k flawless duo, quick game) If all of 'us' unskilled players don't play as well then the ones that do choose to play will ONLY get those hundreds of times flawless and that is no fun and no one can get better. I also think it would be nice to have PvP coaches. I am STILL a Strand PvP Hunter and I can say that those clones don't kill you, they nerfed them and the threadlings, remember. The OP must be refering to BEFORE the nerf. You will be ok just run right through them.

                      • I agree, Its hard to compete against adept weapons but i have and won with team play. The biggest frustration is being matched with players who have little or no experience. Armor or weapons without mods . But as long as a player *me with a .6KDA get matched with someone worse than me or same against a flawless team will always prevent me from getting past the 5 win mark. I did help a player go flawless this morning, and then lost every game after that.

                          • Don't think you will ever get randoms to work together. I think pvp in general is messed up because of the bad match making and when the sweat teams go flawless by playing against low kd casual players like myself, they get the best weapons and dominate regular pvp. So matchmaking is a big big issue

                            • I’m a an old man that like trials.. I’m no way good but I can hold my own… I’ve been to the lighthouse plenty of times.. but very very mid even trashy.. I gotta say trails this weekend has been atrocious. Sometimes I have to see if I’m playing against teams because how well coordinated they are. I will never claim I’m good I’m actually pretty bad, but I do like trials and do believe it should be end game PVP.

A lot of points I agree with. I’m in a clan that has a discord, in total there’s about 200 Destiny players there. Sometimes we hang out, people stream etc. Just about everyone I’ve watched solo queue into trials, lives on a flank. They see their team mate and they just repel like an opposing magnet. I am NOTHING SPECIAL in pvp, but I know that, so I move with whoever on my team is dying less and I take shots at whoever they are shooting. It works. These days I most play with one or two of my friends, my best friend and I had a really mean strategy for a while where we both used bows, moved together and shot the same targets. 2 body shots killed. If we shot the same dude at the same time he was dead in the blink of an eye. And it wasn’t even hard, really it required the most basic communication. So long as we were in he same area we would see the same people and shoot the same targets. Maybe that’s not fun, but is failing 5 flanks in a row really worth that lucky 6th flank where instead of dying you trade 1 for 1 and then complain in chat that your team is too heavy gg ff 15 Edit: the thing my buddy and I did actually works a lot better with pulse rifles. If you can duo queue with a friend try it out. If you both move together and take the same fights you will drop people in the blink of an eye before they even scope you.
