Guardian Games feedback from my 16 yo

He's been playing Destiny since early D1 and mains a Titan. I've cleaned up paragraphs and grammar a bit but left his wording and context virtually untouched. -------------- Everything wrong with the guardian games event: Laurels: While the concept is interesting there are a few things things wrong with them. While I understand Bungie's reasoning for this they shouldn’t drop like gambit motes in pve activities they should always auto collect like hey do in pvp. The other thing that is flawed with them is their reliance on abilities. Bungie acknowledged one thing (hunter population) but they failed not notice a major flaw in the laurel system which they needed to for a competition between the classes. The potential for high laurel generation is not even across the classes. Warlocks have great options for pve laurel generation: Sunbracers plus Monte, top tree stormcaller, and a few others. For hunters, top tree Arc Strider (dodge punch spam), middle tree gunslinger plus Ophidia Spathe plus Monte, and one or two other setups. Now if u look at these setups you’ll see there is notthing super great for pvp Let’s take a look at titans: Armamentarium (double grenades with any grenade), shoulder charge with Monte, arc shoulder charge with insurmountable skull fort, Armamentarium plus bottom tree sentinel, and others. Now all these are great in pve, but they all have great potential in pvp also (the shoulder charge setups in particular). This is most likely the cause of it seeming so lopsided towards titans because they can complete laurel based objectives quicker. Stack this with the fact that they have the second highest population. The other classes never had a chance to catch up. The laurels should have dropped from a weekly or daily source rather than abilities because warlocks can mow hordes of enemy’s with their abilities in pve but there ability to get large amounts of pvp ability kills is limited. Now look at hunters they rely on mobility and sometimes even gun oriented perks to thrive. They're not made for ability spam. Titans have arguably the best pvp grenades and two ways to get double charges of them. Shoulder charge to provide an ability one shot in crucible and solid pvp supers all of this being just as efficient for laurels in pvp. All of this shows that Bungie doesn’t look before they leap. Medals: Not much wrong here besides that the gold medals should be for laurels and not the silver cause if you don’t focus on using abilities (constantly) you often complete gold before silver which is rather dumb. So Bungie, while the event is in concept a nice change of pace you failed to realize so much and failed to know your own game and again brought disappointment to an overall entertaining game. I hope eventually you can get things right the first time. Sincerely, A Titan Main -------------------

  • The PVP laurel generation side doesnt matter. You go into a 6v6 mode and you gonna get the laurels done no matter what. I main titan and I didnt make any special PVP setup for laurels, I just ran Burning Maul and the class item and got it done. Your team will also produce laurels for you and most of the matches there were more hunters than titans in my team, still got them done easy.

    • Not a bad analysis. I also think that the class weighting from a trials weekend (the first one) was a very bad statistic choice as well. Figures get bloated in hunters direction because of it being PvP. Overall I just honestly think the event would have been better suited as a faction oriented event, and not a class oriented one. Less bs infighting on class superiority, and no real need to weight things.

    • You can bet that most of the people down voting this aren't even 16.

      • Pretty good analysis. Titans won because the mechanics of the contest were slanted in their favor. They had more---and easier---ways to generate laurels. Plus the medals and bounties get done faster if you do them with people of the same class rather with other classes. So there was even more benefit to running as a Titan. As is often the case with Bungie, the first iteration of an activity doesn't seemed to be thought through all the way. Had laurel generation just been tied to KILLS....and Bungie hadn't tried to micro-manage everything down to the tiniest detail....I think this would have gone over better, and the competition closer and more interesting.

Titans won because they stacked the progression rate to offset class popularity. Cant really call it a contest if the rate of progression is not equal. Hunters technically won by miles. EDIT: Why are people down voting this? Its a opinion, not an absolute.

          • Hunters have infinite dodge/melee spam plus healing on kill without an exotic on an arc class. The ability aspect of this was fine for all classes.

          • Don’t forget the prime fact of the Games being rigged from the start based on shorty math that your 16yo could have done better and brain dead assumptions on what player population would be throughout the Games.

                • I ain’t gonna lie I’m a Hunter main. But no matter what you say it won’t matter. The events over and it doesn’t show who’s the “master class” it shows who participates in events more. Plus with Hunter point reduction and not as many Warlocks who do you thinks gonna win. Titans had nothing effecting them. Plus like 80% of the Destiny APP forums people are Titan mains and your saying they didn’t win fair and square... your gonna get a lot of dislikes and a lot of hate, don’t say I didn’t warn ya. Just look at the “Nerf Anteous Wards” posts... In short this event shows nothing. So just forget about the event... not trying to be rude... just saying.

Generating MASSIVE amounts of laurels was not important... at all. It only made the bounties/medals slightly more convenient to complete. Only the medals actually "mattered."

                    • Not sure why this is downvoted... is it because it's by a teenager? Anyway, this is a good analysis.

                      • Or nix the Bounties entirely and have a Strike, crucible, and gambit Guardian Games nodes in the tower screen and have us do Time attack for the fastest daily strike or highest score (maybe make it a nightfall variant, crucible could be 3 class vs 3 class elim, and gambit is class vs class gambit teams. No muss or fuss with bounties just twists on playmodes let the best class win. #noBountySim2021

                        • Nice breakdown. If it returns next year (it may not, as I understand it to be done in tandem with the Olympics that were supposed to happen this year), it definitely needs some retooling.

                        • Why did he not post this himself? Were you worried he was going to be insulted and it left unchecked? If so I dont blame you. They wonder why t bagging and the disrespect runs rampant. I've seen more vigilante justice from the community. We see what happens when that goes by. Anyways thats cool you're a good dad/mom and doing a good job with your son. Keep it up
