GREATEST Fighter Ever.
Just a fun discussion and purely that. To subjective so no real right or wrong answer!
Time frame 1900-2019. [b]Reasons documented proof and traceable records.[/b]
So NO screaming abuse and kids shouting - “Bruce Lee was the best fighter on the planet.” Crap without any documented proof of title defenses (against other world level athletes) or tangible and traceable bouts.
He was an amazing fighter and martial artist but greatest is way to hard to prove in his case.
Also keep in mind - NOT “influential martial artist!” As yes Bruce Lee would make a fine entry.

Boxer, bare knuckle (king of gypsies) or underground boxers, (if traceable record) So no Charlie Zelanoff doesn’t count! - Vale Tudo, MMA, 8 point Muai Thai, karate, kung fu, grappling, classic jiu jitsu / BJJ ect ect for the above time frame.
Keep it clean and remember this is for fun and sheer discussion value. Also remember how styles may match up. Would a boxer succeed in 8 point Muai Thai? Could a master at kung fu survive a top level grappler and a prolonged ground game?

1 ReplyI hate arguments like this. Boxing, kickboxing, muay thai, and mma have such different metas that developed along with the rulesets that its hard to claim there is a single greatest fighter. Even within the sports, different styles and ways of going about your business mean theres no single greatest. Also, nobody is ever unbiased when talking about the goat. Ali, tyson, silva, gsp, mcgregor, etc etc. All of them are some of the best to fight, but none of them were perfect or went unbeaten.

I think Bruce Lee was a real deal but the best? That's something we can't fully answer unless footage came up of him fighting. If there's any I haven't seen it yet. I would love to see it.

9 RepliesEdited by The Dragon: 1/9/2019 3:35:17 AMI’m sure Bruce Lee was equivalent in proficiency and skill and strength and speed etc. of what you call “martial arts” to those of ancient Chinese warriors and monks of ages past, considering they also had the luxury to devote much of their time to training and combat and honing their skills. The best martial arts is having the ability to subdue the enemy with the least amount of force, or none at all. These restrained competitions revolving around rules and points miss the purpose of martial arts entirely. Ages ago, knight once challenged me. With lance in hand, he bore down on me upon his horse. Unamused, and frankly tired of the “chivalry” of the day, I sat down and stood my ground. Upon impact, the rider unhorsed himself and his lance splintered into pieces. As I stared down upon the man, who laid gazing back up in shock, he finally found his wits and ran off without his horse. My martial arts proved superior.

I really want to pick RJJ from those four, I really do, but he just never left as strong an impact as the other 3 and he didn't outright dominate the sport for too long. I have to go with Tyson. Put it like this - if you told me that I had to step in the ring with every heavyweight champion except for 1, then the 1 that I would avoid is Mike Tyson. Id never step in the ring against him for any amount of money. I'm liable to get my ear bit off even if he doesn't beat the shit out of me
