Experienced help to counter handcannons

I know that D1 has come to an end but still I would appreciate if out there there is any experienced player who could help me understand what am I doing wrong when trying to counter handcannons. I'm using Blind Perdition adept + wormwood/ice breaker and in average I'm always loosing encounters against handcannons unless I manage to put enough distance and kill fast (rare). Please no obvious/ridiculous suggestions such as "radar awareness" or "aim better" or "that's the meta bro, grab a Palindrome yourself"...I already know that but I'm sure my gun is not that bad and I've seen lots of good players doing much better than me against the meta. When I tried asking them they don't know what to say. Anyone willing to help?

  • HC have the lowest time to kill if remember correctly. At least the Pali arche type And it's an easy 3-tap so there isn't really anything you can do about it.

  • Blind perdition is a beast, stick and move. From experience, I'd say( outside the usual) if you take damage( shield gone and more) in a gun fight range scenario, take cover, don't go peeking, or that pali or in my case Hawkmoon will tap ya. Good luck guardian, rest here is solid advice. Peeps say don't tell me usuals, but that's really all u need to work on. Little by little u will see the difference. I only use my blind perdition for the pulse bounty, but doesn't take long

  • I know you said dont state the obvious, but work on small things to help yourself win engagements. 1- Be selective in your engagements. You have a pulse rifle so try to avoid close encounters. There's nothing wrong with bailing on an encounter to get the upper hand and stay alive. 2- Always keep your reticle at head height. This will help you get the first shot in, and will flinch the opponent a bit and hopefully help you win. This is really a huge thing that will help immensely. If you want to win against a hand cannon you NEED to land the first shots. 3-Always be near cover! This is one people always forget, but know where your cover is and there's always a point mid gunfight where you know if you will win or lose. If you are going to lose, then bail and regroup. 4-Record and Watch your gameplay! This is one a lot of players mess up, but record your gameplay for a few games and then watch how you play. You came here for advice. But no one here knows your playstyle or what you really do in game. If you watch your engagements with a pen and paper you can write down what you did in 1 engagement that led you to a win, and the same for a loss and use what you learn to tweak your playstyle, or at least keep yourself aware of any mistakes in the future. This can even help get your look sensitivity dialed in right. On twitch encounters where you need to snap your reticle to a players head quickly do you find yourself coming up short often? Or do you sail past their head and go to far? If you come short all the time, then bump your sensitivity up. If you sail past the head then maybe lower it a bit. If it'll help you get the first shot then you will win more engagements!! If you ever want to run some crucible hit me up. I'm on PS4, and Xbox one!

Well... if you have a sidearm, then try to get on top of them and abuse the sidearms rof and insane in air accuracy. As for blind perdition.. try scooting back just a hair. Hand cannons have limited range, and their aim assist drops off fast. Hand cannons absolutely dominate the sweet spot between sidearm and pulse rifle range. But get dominated by pulses and sidearms in their respective ranges. If you play with that in mind you shouldn't have too many issues. If you do that and still have issues then I'm sad to say it but you need to aim better... EDIT: Other tips... Try running max armor, if you can reach that magical 200 health number you will survive 1 head + 2 body from a palindrome. Try crouch strafing with your pulse. ALWAYS slide corners and hug cover. And yes... work on radar awareness so you can get the first shot off

  • Spend a few crucible games working on movement. Don't attack you enemies just practice dodging, getting in and out of engagement ranges and breaking sight lines. When you find yourself comfortable enough with movement that you can survive 3 or more seconds within their engagement range, then start working on offensive plays. Also don't use default controls. Bumper jumper or puppeteer will allow you to jump or crouch respectively without taking your thumbs off the control sticks making it harder for them to land head shots while keeping your aim steady. Good luck

Dance my boy, DANCE. If you were a hunter I would suggest Radiant Dance Machines and an auto like Shadow Price. Strafe like a mother-blam!-er and be unpredictable.

    • Only way to counter is to fight fire with fire, unfortunately.

    • Try taking a friend equipped with a hand canon into a private match. Don't kill each other but instead shoot each other and look at the damage numbers and from there move closer and further away to work out the effective range of both weapons. This means when you go into normal crucible you know what range engagements you want to get into, this will help with map placement. Also do you strafe? It's one of the most important and easy things to do when in a straight gun fight but a lot of people forget to do it all the time. Lastly I would swap HCR with hand loaded or what ever the other perk is. HCR's got a bit of a nerf on pulse's and the extra range is always good against HC's.

      • It's about managing your engagements. With Blind Perdition/Wormwood, you shouldn't be losing many engagements as long as you stay out of close-mid-range. Get up close and melt them with the superior CQC gun (Wormwood) or stay back and shoot with your ranged primary. (BP) BP/Ice Breaker is a bit tougher... you gotta just keep your distance. Don't let yourself get pushed.

-blam!- handcannons. Hopefully it's like the beta where autos and pulses will shit on handcannons.

            • I primarily use pulses and scouts myself. From my experience, distance is your only real friend. Close-to-mid range, handcannon users are going to poop all over you unless they're incompetent with them. If you're sticking to sidearms, as long as your reasonably close you can typically outshoot them(lol GG bungo). I generally use high-impact fusion rifles though, so I can usually safely crispify them from midrange. Those are just my experiences though. I'm not exactly a sweaty tryhard lol.

              • Just keep doing what your doing and keep that distance. Re learn the maps to learn which corridors and hallways you can enter and which ones you can't if you want to deal with hancannons. Learn the routes around the map that take you to your teammates without jumping straight into handcannon territory.

This is real advice: Exaggerate the "wiggle." Strafe hard, left and right in a varied pattern, while firing in a confrontation. Use something you're familiar with, but whatever you use must work well with your strafing rhythm. This is what you must learn to use at short, to all of the middle distances. Weapons: Mida, better pulses, auto rifles with great perks. It's literally the difference in one or two hits. That's just how tight it can be.

You don't have to keep your distance. Just land your shots while simultaneously making sure they don't hit theirs. Make less predictable moves. (This is coming from someone that doesn't like handcannons)

              • Keep your distance. Seems you're losing because you're taking hand canons on in their territory.

              • my main loadout is a god roll parthian shot (sure shot, take a knee, counter balance , bracedframe) and a god roll saladins vigil i use my parthian to counter snipers or out range hand cannons, and i use my saladins vigil for anyone who comes inside hand cannon range

From what I understand from your post it seems that positioning is your problem. Why don't you try recording a few of your matches. In their entirety. And look at the times you've died. I almost guarantee you'll be able to see some kind of similarly in your positioning and you can adjust from there. Good luck! edit If you clip them I'll be happy to watch them for you and give you some 3rd party input. Sorry if my post wasn't very helpful but I'm not sure where you need help just from reading your post

I normally run pulse/sidearm in crucible now. I MISS MY FUSION RIFLE... Anyways.. For hand cannon engagements I normally try to bait them back towards me.. Make them fight on your ground, if you can get that first shot on them when they round the corner.. Your pulse will do the job, or if you draw them in close enough, use the sidearm or fusion on them. If they get the first shot on you, you're kinda screwed so try to get out of line of fire if possible, if not.. try to do as much damage before you die? Of course, grenades and supers help as well.. but if you're out of those.. Just play defensively, use cover and make them play your game, not the other way around. Oh, and.. dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge.. if you can dodge a wrench you can dodge a handcannon

                  • ? Aside from perks what is there to say. Stop getting hit... ive been using scout/sidearm for over a year and it boils down to Stay outa range Lead with a grenade Use sidearm when they are too close Make yourself harder to hit Hand cannons are the meta for a reason. Your not gonna win if you dont play like its overpowered.
