PVP Glory system flawed

So frustrating to lose Glory points over things you can't control - like teammates killing themselves and sabotaging the game. This happened tonight in Survival Freelance. After my team lost the first round, a player started jumping off the map and getting themselves intentionally killed. I admit that I didn't play very well but how can you possibly win when a teammate throws away lives? If anyone at Bungie is interested, here's a clip of the game. [url]https://vimeo.com/460897523[/url] The player kills themselves at timecode 1:47, 2:16, 3:07, 3:38 and 4:28. Those are just the ones that I saw in frame or in the kill feed. At 3:30, I report the player for sabotage. I don't mind having to grind but this is just one of the many flaws in the Glory system. Shouldn't have to lose hard earned points for this. Bungie, do the right thing and give them back.

  • Think the removal of point loss would help this very much in long run. That way even if someone leaves cause might be losing doesn't screw the other guys.

    Glory fails to account for your individual performance, at least in Freelance. That's the main flaw. I've had games where I held the team up yet still got slapped as hard as the others when we ultimately lost because I am not good enough to carry a three man team. Conversively, I've had trash games too, yet my teammates got slapped as hard those times too even though they did most of the work. In my opinion, your [b]individual performance[/b] needs to be a factor too. Players should not be knocked down because of bad matchmaking or fellow players with bad manners. [u]An example could be [b](and numbers are just to explain, exact numbers not thought through):[/b][/u] [i]Player A[/i] has a great game with 25 kills and 10 deaths, but they ended up losing. [b]Player A Glory gains/losses:[/b] +50 for kills, -10 for deaths and -25 for loss = +15 total. His teammate [i]Player B[/i] on the other hand gets blasted into oblivion 22 times while only taking 4 with them. [b]Player B Glory gains/losses:[/b] +8 for kills, -22 for deaths, -25 for loss = -39 total [i]Player A[/i] still gets a little bit of Glory for good effort. [i]Player B[/i] lost a lot because of the bad game. [u]Another example:[/u] [i]Player A[/i] wins a match with 20 kills and 10 deaths, his teammate [i]B[/i] ended up eating it and got just 5 kills to his 15 deaths. [i]Player A:[/i] +40 for kills, -10 for deaths, +25 for win = +55 total. [i]Player B:[/i] +10 for kills, -15 for deaths, +25 for win = +20 total. [i]Player A[/i] gets lots of Glory for great effort while [i]player B[/i] gets some because they did manage to win. Can also add in the other factors like rank-dependant modifiers and the likes. Like I mentioned before, numbers are not definite - they are just to explain. Also, if players leave the match, their teammates should not lose Glory if (or most likely when) they lose.

    • Unbroken player here. Teammates leaving and you still losing points is dumb (If someone not in your fire team leaves you shouldn’t lose glory on a loss 🤷‍♂️). Matches with uneven teams should be canceled. Lobsided matches (stat and glory wise teams being miles apart) should reward less for losses. Other games do this well Siege being an example. Not being able to rejoin. This is ridiculous. Actual competitive games with active and popular competitive scenes like Rocket League and R6 Siege allow people to rejoin competitive matches. Why can’t we?

      • Glory system is beyond unbalanced and broken. I’ve been stuck at mythic one of over 2-3 months playing comp almost daily. Winning a few then immediately going on a loosing streak. I’ve been working on getting legend for 2 damn years. You should not be loosing this much glory and you should be gaining a lot more for each win. It’s way to damn unbalanced

        • I think the entire community is united on this. Glory is the only rank that goes backwards when you lose. NO ONE. and I mean NO ONE. wants to play comp with me, EVER. because there's no point. You go in, get pissed off because the game DC's you, you get trolled by teammates, teammates leave, teammates grief, it's honestly just an awful experience. Here's a thought, delete the comp playlists and make Trials a 24/7 activity that resets weekly and give that a freelance playlist.

            • Quitter / Leaver should get a punishment to large Glory (maybe after 1 warning to account for internet failures) and a time-out / temp ban. Then multiple times should get longer bans. The people who stay in the match when their fireteam is not full should not lose or only lose a small amount of Glory (10-20 points maybe). The Glory tier matchmaking should be divided at every 1000 or 1200 points. This would help make the teams more balanced (in theory). I don't want Glory to be easy, but it shouldn't be so punishing for players with bad matchmaking luck & more punishing for intentional sabotage cases. These are just my thoughts, if you can think of how this would be abused or not useful, feel free to let me know. I'm more on the PvE side, but I really enjoy PvP, too, and I'd love to see more people engaged in PvP for all our sakes.

            • comp needs an actual competition. brackets , points , semi finals , finals, and championship. make it an attractive event that lasts a couple weeks.

            • Buy something extra from Eververse this week to thank them. They made it this way when they took sbmm out of all playlists but comp.

              • Bungie should give us an team based 3s ranked ladder, that resets seasonally. The glory system is extremely flawed and not really competitive at all.

              • Make a team then? It's easier than ever to rank up now. You must not have been playing comp when a single loss would be a significant setback. Now it's a barely noticeable setback other than losing the time of the match. I usually just chalk it up to bad luck and report and on to the next match.

                comp solo que felt more painful this season for sure. My guess is the lower population so more games of one high elo'er & 2 tin division per side. A real "back breaker" season. Keep at it you will get their. In general you will need around a 55% win rate and be around 1700 elo to finish the grind past 4200ish. mainly because once in the final part of the grind you loose more point then you gain and and win streaks of +3 are required to gain any glory. going 2 wins 1 loss with no streak built up is a net loss of glory at fabled 3. You can also try tanking your elo if you feel you peaked at to early of off a good streak. I do that myself. finished 1689 with a 1.2-1.26KD. tanked it to 1200.

                • That whole thing is fvcked. I just went legend for the first time, mainly playing freelance. Took ages bc I’m not a good player but the most infuriating thing was losing games bc 1. Getting booted 2. Starting out with only two players (sometimes leading to the other person quitting as well) 3. Horrible matchmaking in general. But I guess it is what it is. But it’s hard not to get upset about these things, especially when you’re struggling as it is.

                  • They wont give you back something as easy to get like glory points X) Thats how it is. If you wanna avoid those issues, be competitive by finding a team. Freelance will always be like that. In every game you have throwers etcs..

                  • I feel your pain. This happened to me a few times this year as well. Even when we were playing well, the match got sabatoged. I casually play comp but with the toxicity, cheating, lag, and other issues, it's becoming less enjoyable by the day.

                  • They just need to stop using ranks as a reward tier system, like the game is Jeff Bezos's credit card. It needs real ranks, bronze, silver, etc. In some ranked playlists
