Sunsetting takes away incentive to masterwork

Why would anyone ever masterwork anything anymore if you can't use it after a certain amount of time? Its just a waste of materials. Edit: Learning that the armor from last wish and garden are coming forward (along with some others) it doesn't make it as bad... BUT, it still doesn't solve the fact that we can't put certain mods on those armor sets. Let us put any mod on any armor, get rid of the elements, make all mods universal!

  • This game is only for the people who will treat it like a fulltime job. No, I'm not talking about streamers or content creators. I'm talking about anyone who has the time to only play Destiny and re-grind the same old reissued content for reskinned content with nothing more than a new power cap. It's an insult. It took me what felt like forever to fully masterwork my gear (I'm a solo casual player), and if Bungie thinks players like me are going to waste time masterworking gear (when it's already expensive)... they have another thing coming. And that's if they still even play.

      • A major reason for sunsetting armor is because of the mods on some armor being broken. That's why we're not going to be able to put old mods on the updated raid armor (except for shadowkeep mods for garden armor).

      • Loot and materials just need to drop st a higher rate. Thats all. Besides that, the ones that upset can go play COD.

Cost of materials is way to high to even try got get 3 characters geared never mind the poor drops and multitude of mods you need to used one type of gun. So you need several sets of gear to run , Hand Cannon, Sniper, Sub Machine Gun, Shotgun, Auto Rifle, Pulse Rifle.......yaydyada. Mods are okay but dang unless your playing 24\7 your only going to stick with one or builds on probably one character. Let me have a nice set of armour and let me put whatever er mods on I want.

      • The cost of masterworking alone was enough to make me stop caring about masterworking. Increasing the cost every freaking year was annoying as hell.

      • Agreed, us folk that live in the real world with jobs and families, that don't find a magic way to play 72 hours a day have lost any incentive to put any effort into earning anything. All my favorite pinnacle weapons that took me a long ass time of grinding on weekends will be dead as of the end of this season.

      • If get armour this season, it will last you till season 14. If you have season 10 armour it will last you till season 13, And season nine will last you until season 12 is over. So...focus on those sets? Mainly the ones that last you a year?

        • I’ve only been buying the seasons pass to get the ascendant shards to masterwork my armour,I don’t always get them because of time. I have 3 pieces on my Titan masterworked and this season I was hoping to complete a set for the first time in D2. Now I see there’s no point😭. Won’t be trying again and saving money 👍👍

        • It's not hard to get the materials to master work gear. But! why should we have to farm again for stat totals and also not get back our shards we used to master work our sun set gear. Dont quite understand the reason behind sun setting gear. weapons whatever there's plenty of option there

        • I mainly want stats. I hate that It took me 3 seasons to get all gear over 65. Now with sunsetting, I doubt I will see that again...

          • The only argument I see against this is okay you like your Seasons of Arrival set, you masterwork it, bam done, you have a year as of now to get those materials back, which quite frankly if given the patience, takes a week to do. This is not including that you like the new set of armor that comes out in a later season and want to masterwork that (with transmog I guess this incentive will change... my thoughts as I type) The transition will be rough but I see sunsetting as a healthy change to the game. Now my only problem as of right now is the reissuing of weapons with absolutely no new perk pools. Like I have a bite of the fox I used for close to a year before Revoker but why do I have to get that roll again. That is my biggest frustration

            • The system is too convoluted and difficult for sunsetting. It’s too difficult to attain proper pieces and do so for 3 energy types to begin with. Then you have to do it on all 3 characters. The cost is too much now and with having to replace it yearly makes it not worth the bother. You can also take into consideration that certain weapon archetypes aren’t available to replace what we have to continue builds after the heavy investment we put in. It’s a mess atm. They have to explain the solution before the DLC drops. I’m not buying it until I have a clear understanding of things.

                • It takes away incentive to literally do anything, or care about doing anything. Why invest in gear at all, if it's being thrown into the fire soon after it's introduced? Why even play the game tbh

                • The only way this works is if masterworking cost less OR if we dismantle current masterworked armour we get back all materials. Clearly this won’t happen. Armour 2 is very good in principle but in a year I’ve masterworked no more than 8 armour pieces as cost are high. We also need resources, 25 cores to masterwork weapons. So we have to thick hard about what to do with resources.

"Sunsetting" means it's time to check out early and leave. It's like a sign. A signal. When you see the birds flying inland from the horizon and your dog running away from you with its tail tuck between the hindlegs, that tells you a "Tsunami" is about to hit you!!! Eyes up Guardians!
