Why don't all exotic weapons have a catalyst?

Title Seems kind of unfair, even for the multikill orb generation but every exotic weapon should have one. Why is this not the case?

  • well the whole catalyst system needs to be reworked and put on Xur where you can purchase them ALL yes every last one from raids and otherwise since your system for them to drop is hella bugged something horrid. have had some guns since launch....and STILL no cata while others I get and first even gives cata for that brand new item that ive owned for less than 30 mins while others ive had for 2k hours and nothin

        Honestly I think exotic weapons with catalysts should just perform at their full potential and the only thing that catalysts should do is maybe give a mod like kill clip for example and thats it. Imagine outbreak perfected with kill clip and it already has outlaw 😍

      • Exotic weapons need love. Many of them have no catalysts and are not used as much in regular PvE because they lack orb generation on multi kills All but 4(I think) have no effect on champions so are not used in high level PvE. I used to feel naked without an exotic weapon equipped but somehow it is better to run all purple on the left.

        • A tremendous lack of imagination on bungies behalf. Man, the things I would do (try do) if I was allowed work as part of the Destiny team. I don’t even need my Computer Game Development qualifications to know what the game needs.

          • Some weapons have no excuse. They have been out long enough. But newer ones get theirs after bungie looks at how good the original is in the game. For example, Lumina was a great idea and is one of a kind. But it hardly got any usage despite being decent. The catalyst is very very strong in basically any activity where you aren’t stupidly under leveled. So a strong catalyst on a weapon will elevate its usage beyond what it was already without having to change perks or its weapon archetype. I still don’t know why izanagis burden got the catalyst it did though 🤷🏻‍♂️ but others than that, that’s what happens.

          • Catalysts are just another way for Bungie to release untested, half baked Exotic weapons, then add even more grind, firstly to access the catalyst (through RNG) then secondly, more busy work/grind to complete catalyst - ending up with a weapon that’s (with a good one) close to being like it should have been released initially And with that said, there’s plenty of weapons that needed these catalysts (Thorn, Malfeasance, Sturm, Monte Carlo, Jötunn, Exotic Bows etc) and some that really need reworking (as they perform poorly - looking at you Vigilance Wing)

            • The original reason they came out was to buff exotics as destiny2 in year 1 everything sucked. I’m hit and miss with this. Yeah it would be good to have more content but the balancing issues with the guns would be worse. Some sucky exotics got a lot better with a catalyst (like the huckleberry). Now if every exotic had a catalyst the ones that stood out because they had one would suck again. May also be harder coming up with catalyst ideas for the exotics. One maybe a massive change, another may enhance the exotic perk and another may just add 2 stability. Last point is the RNG on getting the catalyst in the first place is probably the hardest in the game. Say if so happen one of the exotic catalyst become OP or the meta. People will have little to zero chances of getting it themselves.

              • They announced when masterworks first came out they plan to give all exotics masterworks All year 1 exotics have a catalyst and they have been releasing more very slowly. Or they could do what they did awhile ago and completely lie and not do it (im referencing how they said along time ago they wouldn’t sunset and they are now)

                • Because they take extra time a resources to create. Why not remove all catalysts and just have them as part of the weapon itself?

                • Catalysts were a band-aid. Destiny 2 launched with a weapon system that had been designed with the purpose of LIMITING player power and making balancing the sandbox easier for PVP balance. The problem is that PVE is the core of the game, and that game is a power-fantasy game. So as one poster here put it back then, "My Guardian in Destiny 1 was a Jedi. But for Destiny 2 they've turned him into a Stormtrooper.' IOW, game got turned form a space magic game into a bad imitation of Halo. So Bungie was left scrambling to save the game. Because not only did the changes BREAK the feel of the game....it also BROKE the end game. Fixed weapon rolls and dual primary weapons imposed a DPS ceiling on players that made end-game content TEDIOUS rather than fun....and fixed rolls destroyed any loot chase. Once you got your "First Better Devils" there was no point to any other one you got after that. So people left the game in droves....because there was nothing to do and nothing to chase. Which pushed Bungie to have to find a way to get us power while they bought time to overhaul the game....as well as try to find some way to motivate people to play the raids. So they created exotic catalysts....and then put them as low-drop rate loot items in raids and other difficult content. I don't think Bungie ever intended to continue them past their immediate need to save the game. But the problem was that WE LIKED THEM. So Bungie has been dragged kicking-and-screaming since them to create more of them for us. They do it, but I don't think they like it. I get their point of view on it. It just makes extra work. If your going to have a catalyst (in a game with a functional weapon system and loot system) , why not just make that feature a permanent part of the weapon? Fourth Horseman (version Destiny 2) is really kind of a shitty weapon without its exotic catalyst. The reload time is annoyingly slow. So all the catalyst winds up doing is finally turning it into a weapon that feels good to use.

                      10 year plan my dude. It all comes down to the ridiculous 10 year plan. Bungie hardly has enough content in this game to last 2 years right now but they have to reach that 10 year plan marker. So they have to stretch out content to a ridiculously slow degree. There really is zero reason why year 1 exotics still don't have catalysts other than they are just delaying it as long as possible. It's been datamined and leaked that all these guns already have catalysts ready to go. They just haven't been added into the game cuz, 10 year plan, gotta drag everything out as long as possible.
