The original reason they came out was to buff exotics as destiny2 in year 1 everything sucked. I’m hit and miss with this. Yeah it would be good to have more content but the balancing issues with the guns would be worse. Some sucky exotics got a lot better with a catalyst (like the huckleberry). Now if every exotic had a catalyst the ones that stood out because they had one would suck again. May also be harder coming up with catalyst ideas for the exotics. One maybe a massive change, another may enhance the exotic perk and another may just add 2 stability. Last point is the RNG on getting the catalyst in the first place is probably the hardest in the game. Say if so happen one of the exotic catalyst become OP or the meta. People will have little to zero chances of getting it themselves.

  • I just want to add my own two cents regarding the catalysts. Aside from what the catalyst gives when masterworked, the process of masterworking has almost always felt disappointing imo. Most just require X amount of kills which you can grind in the Whisper quest in less than an hour, with a few requiring things unrelated to actually masterworking the Exotic (such as Sleeper requiring other Ikelos weapons, Telesto requiring you to complete the prophecy verses, Fighting Lion requires bounties, etc). Only a few actually felt like I was trying to master the weapon itself, such as Graviton's Cosmology seeker kills (still more effective than scatter grenades), Sunshot's chain explosions, Polaris's Perfect Fifth kills (though the explosion not counting was dumb), and healing people with Lumina.

  • For the last few season’s be got Catalysts from the first strike I do . If it’s a general loot pool weapon I do t see an issue . If it’s 1000 voices for example , sure it’s a annoying but if the player doesn’t have the weapon anyway what does it matter ? I still hate that the mida is still so pointlessly tired to comp.

  • They should just give Exotic weapons random roll optional perk sets, with only the Exotic perk being unchanged. And mod slots, and sight/scope options/add-ons like suppressors.
