Dear Bungie

First off, if any of you guys actually come across this (Deej), thank you for introducing Destiny into my life. Like the Awoken I am already forever changed by its presence. That being said.. Spaceships Is it a matter of choice whether or not we control them or is it just not something that isn't in the cards at the moment? To be clear, I'm speaking of in atmosphere control of spacecraft, not space flight. These destinations seem large enough to put them to good use in that way and even as a quick means to get from location to location. Through therapy, I've accepted the cutscene for space travel thing. If it is currently possible and/or being thrown around with the release date's postponing, think of this: Destiny is set to change the way we play FPS in a huge way, but why settle for that when you seemingly have a golden opportunity to change the way we play video games. One more step (Whispers-"7th Step?)"and this game loses it's classification and becomes something entirely new, something only even conceived of by few. After all isn't that Bungie's Destiny? I mean this game is on the freaking edge of creating a gaming genre for Christ's sake!! Be Brave Bungie, jump.. I don't know if anyone else agrees with me, but if not- hey- the prize is worth the risk of looking like a jack ass. If you do agree and support having control of your spaceship (if possible), leave the most random comment you can think of to show your support! Thank you to anyone who made it to this sentence.

  • Bungie has been pretty clear about the spaceships not being controllable. I agree with this decision. Consider this: In the space between planets, there's really no point in flying your own ship. You're probably traveling at some hypothetical faster than light speed, and there would be nothing to do. That only leaves orbital flight, and in-atmosphere flight. If they allowed in-atmosphere flight, it would negatively impact exploration in Destiny. Say there is some weapon hidden on the top of some mountain, and you have to trek up some overgrown trail to reach the summit. That could all be skipped if you can just fly up to the top. So the only place left to allow flight is in orbit around planets or other objects. But think about how sterile an environment that is. Sure the background will change, depending on where you are, but space is otherwise empty. There are no paths to follow, doors to unlock, treasures to find. The only activity of any real entertainment value would be dog fights. Now sure, a dog fight would be fun once or twice, but I don't think it's something people would end up going back to much. Not when there's a planet below you with loot to find.
