12 year old girl jumps off building after being bullied.

Article video Whenever I see something like this I get upset and smack my head at the same time. I know bullying is very hard on a girl her age but there are other options other than suicide. I wish she had nicer friends but I guess girls her age are just nasty people. Is abusing someone supposed to be fun? What are your thoughts on this and what should happen to the bullies?

      • Yeah, it's called better parenting. Not to be a dick, but parents need to take an active role in their kids lives. I am pretty sure the majority of these kids that off themselves from bullying don't have very attentive parents.

      • I threw myself off of a bridge the other night. It was raining pretty hard, so the surface of the water was riddled with micro-disturbances and broke more easily than if it was calm. Essentially I fell into a big net, instead of a solid surface.

        • I feel so sorry for people who get bullied. I was bullied in high school and considered suicide. I hope the bullies learn a lesson from this and change their behavior.

          • Part of the problem is that, even at 12, the brain is nowhere near fully developed. It doesn't have any really effective capacity to see the big picture (which is one reason why teens tend to do stupid things; they don't think of the consequences). As a result, the kid doesn't see this as something that will eventually pass or be stopped, but an event that will occupy the rest of their life. Then they don't fully comprehend their choices or the results of said choices, and combined with anything like depression (that could possibly lead to bullying in the first place, an easy target), the kid jumps off a bridge. It's sad, really

          • What's that? Another parent blaming social media after the fact, and The Flood lapping it up like good little sheeple? People that lead otherwise healthy lives don't kill themselves because of [INSERT ENTERTAINMENT MEDIUM HERE]. Parents want to blame it on something other than themselves, and what better target than something they don't understand? This is no different than when they blame school shootings on video games. Media outlets capitalize on these incidents because they create debates about solving bullying (ie something that can't be solved) so they can fill the space not already filled by pharmaceutical/oil industry ads. This is just like the Ask.fm thing last month.

Seriously, it's pathetic as -blam!- and it's getting old as shit. It's like nobody from the next generation has common sense or something. People have tried to bully me at that age and I always stood up to them or cut it short. I never instead went all mellow as -blam!- and depressed and had suicidal thoughts. -blam!-ing idiots.

                  • People who are bullies are shitheads but the people being bullied do need to harden the -blam!- up because there is always going to be someone trying to make your life hell. I always got shit during school for having long hair but I just told them to -blam!- off and I went on my way.

                    • Killing yourself over #FirstWorldProblems? Someone needs to grow some thicker skin. I used to be insulted and bullied and never once had suicidal thoughts.

                      • Why don't teenagers and children see any other options but suicide? Do they ever think from a larger perspective, instead the only way to end the bullying is to remove yourself from existence?

                        • If the American education system had it so self-defense was not considered assaulting someone, then I would have suggested taking self-defense classes. People tend not to bully someone that can beat them to the point of sending them to the nurse.

I'm starting to think the problem is less that people are little bitches today compared to yesteryear and more to do with young kids not understanding what suicide really means. They get a glamourised view of it courtesy of the idiotic news outlets who weep crocodile tears at every child who offs themselves and then give them all this posthumous attention and praise. It's no wonder that children see it as a viable option now. They are having a shit time from the bully/ies, nobody can just deck the little shits or kick them out of the school bcuz yuminroights and so they see this other option to them Chug a gallon of bleach - The internet's worship + endless wailing women on the news about the tragedy of a promising future cut short. Kids want attention - surest way to get it is to leap off a building/hang from a ceiling fan. SO you have glamourised suicides, shitty existence + the perfect culture/society to breed misery and mental health issues in bloody infants let alone teenagers. So rather than the time honoured practise of abhorring/stigmatising the living shit (or not so living) out of suicide it is being perversely worshipped. A good first step would be to stop all news reports on suicides. Blanket ban. It might seem harsh/odd/censorship but seriously it will only be positives for society from there on in. Then give teachers the power to deal with bullies properly, or not to expel children for fighting back. Seriously, teach kids that if someone is attacking you it is ok to beat them up and not get punished for being right then maybe that would kerb some of it. As for cyberbullying... I'm 50/50 over that. TURN THE -blam!-ING PC OFF comes to mind but at the same time there is a genuine problem with it when it goes to extremes. GAAH *flips table*

                            • It's just Darwinism in action. The weak will die, and the people who suffered through it are stronger because of it; the people who survived the inevitable bullying are the ones saying she should've had "thicker skin". People need to realize they aren't the damn center of the universe, nobody gives a shit about such petty issues. Bullying used to be physical or verbal abuse TO YOUR FACE, there was hide or ignore button hovering next to him. So yeah, we should stop caring about some weak willed loser kid, if they won't stand up for themselves, we shouldn't stand up for them either.
