What's weapon crafting?

Weapon Crafting has created a degree of controversy within the community since its introduction in Witchqueen. Last year we saw numerous tweaks and changes tho Weapon Crafting, as well as the acquisition of Deepsight weapons. During Bungie's "Lightfall and the Year Ahead" article, they annouced their plans on reducing the number of craftable weapons going forward. But this season saw the introduction of reprised Deepsight Last Wish weapons, which caused the community to ruthlessly farm Kalli for a grand total of [b][i]2.17 million hours that week[/i][/b] (According to the TWID). With all the mixed signals, I am curious to know what is the overall community opinion on Weapon Crafting? What are the pros and cons of crafting? Do you like it or not and why? Should there be more craftable weapons or fewer? Tell me your thoughts and opinions on crafting below.

  • Haven't really messed with it since lightfall but last year I think I liked it maybe a little too much and the way they've tried to reposition more of the most powerful weapons within the harder content seems to have been a good idea. One of the things I liked about it most though was that it could be used as a way to keep up with endgame players in terms of weapon power without having to play endgame. I think that's something that should happen but it should be rare and meaningful and the grind required should be pretty substantial although not soul crushing. So whatever happens with crafting going forward I hope there are always a few weapons that are obtainable outside endgame that help people keep up.

    I dislike that you are given a limited set of choices. For example, if reservoir burst is a fusion rifle perk you should be able to craft it on ANY fusion rifle.

  • Aside from the heavily weighted RNG to get red boxes and convoluted way to focus them it's great.

  • The concept is OK. I dislike the execution. Too much grind to get the red border drops.

    • Weapon crafting is great but we need more Alloy sources and we should be able to store Ascendant mats in our vaults directly

      • Weapon crafting is the best thing they added in D2. More weapons should have been craftable including dungeon weapons.

        • good and bad, good cuz you will get the roll you wan't without farming a lot , bad cuz with crafting they made the game a lot more casual

          • I used to like weapon crafting, but not after they stealth nerfed red border drops. And the limit on deepsight harmonizers is boiled dog water.

              I would have liked it much more, had we gotten something similar as in Div2 (without the optimization). On a given item instance you can change 1 slot of choice (iE in our case there would be 5 slots: Barrel, Mag, Trait1, Trait2, MW). After you have chosen the slot by initially changing something, this will be the only slot where you can make change again going forward, while the others will stay as they are permanently. Imo producing 100% rolls as easily as we do now is stupid and takes away all farming incentive the moment you can craft a weapon. The above proposed way would make it so that I: People wouldn't run around with exactly the same rolls everywhere (probably same traits but there would be slight difference) II: There would be farming incentive if you like multiple rolls on a weapon III: There would be farming incentive for the people trying for really high-% rolls for a very long time (while still having people happy with 95%-rolls which perform almost equivalently) But that also has disadvantages: I: Vault space if multiple rolls that cannot be recrafed into one another are interesting II: Can take a lot of time in extreme cases likely more However: All of the above is out of question as we cannot go lower than what we have right now. So let's easily have 100%-rolls I guess (except for dungeon weapons).

              • I have quite a few crafted weapons.... I bet I have one or two of them leveled enough to be of any value. Those weapons are used no more than any other weapons I have. That ring true to like most players?

                  I only craft the crem del crem meta s**t Forebearence (Was at Lvl 20 before this season, now 164) Doom of Chelchis (not seeing a lot of action this season) Taipan Commemoration (Just crafted it a few days ago, probably won't use it any, Corrective Measure w/rewind rounds & One for All, does more dirt IMO) Deliverance (Would have loved to have had it back in season 15 paired with Vex Mythoclast and "Particle Deconstruction" Artifact mod)
