He was fighting because his home, his family, and everything that he held dear (right or wrong) was under threat. Guardians fight because "Y'all Down Here." The Fallen, The Vex, The Cabal, The Hive, and everyone else are in OUR backyard, and are threatening US. Threatening the survival of the Human Race (remember Dominus Ghaul wanted to destroy the entire Solar System once he was done with it.) If they don't want a fight, then they can go the -blam!- somewhere else. Problem solved.
