Lucent Acolyte

When seeing the hunter Acolyte it got me wondering. Why Acolyte, it feels as though they didn't have another option. Witch and knight are of comparable power level just different paths. I always thought Acolyte was before you would pick one of those paths. Of course this is just my understanding, so if someone knows of lore that would provide concrete info regarding hive evolution please share!

  • Realistically, it probably comes down to bungie not wanting to design a new hive form to serve has the hunter counterpart.

    • Well, i think thats because a acolyte was kind of the only option that made sense. Warlocks use the light in different ways than the other classes. Wizard. Titans are strong and hit their enemies with everything they got. Knights. The options left are ogres, shriekers, thrall and acolytes. We can cut ogres, because they arent agile or fast in any way, sams for the shrieker. Thrall is the weakest of the hive, and inly really win by swarming the enemy. Not like a hunter at all. So really, acolytes is the better option.

      • Part of me hopes there are unique bosses that are crazier combinations. Like a nova warp thrall or thundercrash ogre or a celestial nighthawk shrieker

        • If I don’t get Thundercrashed by an ogre I expect Bungie to send me 5,000 dollars.

          • The acolytes are typically more agile, more evasive, and faster on foot than the others which is why I think they got hunter abilities

          • Given the Hunter class is based in Mobility, Recon....it would make sense that to an (I have such a problem with that word) Hive, they would be the most logical choice. Small in stature, Fast, gets in and out.

          • I kinda hoped it would be a bit more than just “this Hive enemy = this subclass of guardian.”

            • And they should have gave Wizards something else because all Hive Wizards shoot arc ,so the lucent versions won't feel any different than normal Hive

              • <Honestly I just wish the Hive Risen didn't just copy off us. Do something interesting with the Light. You can use more than just void, arc, and solar. That's basic. Even the Taken use arc, void, and solar. Use some exclusive -blam!-. Like how Blight is pure Dark. Use something pure Light.>

              • Hive wizard- an acolyte that (only female, except for Nokris) must be able to use the mother jelly in order to produce a brood of hive. A unique evolution with strict pre-requisites. The wizard receives tithes from the knight, acolyte, and thrall. Hive knight- the elevation of an acolyte to a more powerful rank within the Hive hierarchy. The knight receives tithes from thrall and acolytes. Hive acolyte- an elevated thrall. Most named acolytes are supplicants of greater hive as weaponsmiths or ceremonial leaders. Acolytes are usually responsible for completing summoning rituals. So, acolytes, knights, and wizards are the most powerful hive that aren’t ascendant; thereby making them the best candidates to receive the light, since they wouldn’t be resurrected through the sword logic

              • It kinda makes sense though. Acolyte for Hunter, Knight for Titan and Wizard for Warlock. Not sure if that's the way Bungie have designed it but after thinking about it that would make sense.

What else would make sense as the Hunter stand in for the Hive? Of the remaining Hive variants, the only other that remotely makes sense to me would be Thrall as the small, agile units. This however breaks down upon further consideration. Thrall attack by swarming their targets, using their numbers to their advantage, clawing and biting. One would expect a Hunter Hive unit to hang out in the mid-long range, using positioning to their advantage. And given that Thrall are the weakest of Hive units, I imagine some Hunters would consider it an insult when compared to Knight/Titans and Witch/Warlocks. (΄◉◞౪◟◉`)

              • Another thing to not is so far the lucent brood are restricted to three specific subclasses. Void Titan/Knight Solar Hunter/Acolyte Arc Warlock/Wizard I wonder if they’ll introduce more Lucent subclasses in WQ or later seasons

              • That is how it works, Bungie probably just decided to have the hunter be an acolyte because the other option is a thrall.
