Stop Forcing Players into PVP to Fulfill Game Content
Bungie,
Let me start by saying that I'm glad Crucible is in the game. I understand it adds a good flavor and can be enjoyable, but for the players like me that are all about the story, lore and collecting (the PVE stuff) we really hate that you force us to play it. In my head right now I am cursing you Bungie, so hard. For the love of god make a special line of gear, weapons and whatever you want separate from that which is part of the core game. It takes me forever to complete requirements such as those for the duality and ticcu's divination catalyst, seasonal challenges and so much other stuff. It is so frustrating for people like me that suck at crucible. If this doesn't change soon, I am gone and never coming back. I don't even understand why you have things setup that way. People that like to play crucible don't do it to enrich and immerse themselves in the story, characters and lore. They play it because they like PVP. Stop requiring the players who fell in love with the game's story and want nothing to do with Crucible to have to participate in those activities.
I'm adding a couple additional comments to the post based on responses...
For those you getting hung up on my use of the word "force" you can substitute it with the word "require". I'm not going to get into a philosophical debate over the definition. The content in my post provides an appropriate context for the use of the word and is in line with the point I'm trying to make.
I've also been seeing a lot of posts playing devils advocate and making the point that players that favor PVP are forced to participate in PVE activity to complete achievements and objectives. This is a valid argument and I'm not denying it. My point is that these objectives and achievements should be relevant to the tasks and enhance the gaming experience mutually if they're going to mix PVP and PVE participation for completion.

Then I shouldn't be forced into PvE for my PvP stuff. So I should be able to get Spoils from PvP for Tarrabah. Palindrome should be obtainable from PvP, too. Or, alternatively, don't expect everything if you're not willing to play everything.

They'll never stop doing this so the best advice I can give is suck it up and do it or don't do it. Sure you'll miss out on things but at least you'll only be playing what you like. I stopped playing crucible all together last June and man my love for destiny has grown back and better and never touched gambit so that never was an issue. Yeah I maybe be missing some stuff but I can bet you most of thst stuff will be brought back in different ways. Like Ace of Spades, never did the quest back in Forsaken because it required you to go into gambit, so I ignored and sure it took a bit but beyond light brought the memorial kiosk and that was my first weapon of out of there. Same with thorn, lumina tlw. The waiting game pays off at least in my eyes.

I really don't care much for PvP in D2. I enjoyed it in D1 but I just don't do much of it in D2. I truly do wish they'd give multiple options of completing things so that the primary PvP'ers and primary PvE'ers could complete them in the way they desire. With that said, I completed the Ticuu's catalyst a couple days ago and it took me quite a while (I started it a while back). It's honestly not that bad if you go into Mayhem. Plenty of people running Stasis so there is ample opportunity of getting kills with the bow on non-moving targets. 😁 I may never complete the Duality simply because I don't run shotguns very often and it's no big deal for me.

Although perhaps there is some merit in the argument of Destiny being both PVE and PVP, I do believe they should be separated more. A PVE player shouldn't go through a lengthy exotic quest only to be blocked by a 'Defeat Guardians with Hand Cannons' step. Same goes for PVP players. Instead of requiring both, perhaps there should be more outright PVE or PVP only quests, similar to the ritual weapons that are present now. *Please note that any opinion voiced here is not necessarily that of the Great Emperor Calus. 5 RepliesAnd yet it’s perfectly fine for people who love PvP but hate PvE to be forced to play it? This game is about PvP and PvE. Suck it up. If you want PvE only, go play outriders. PvP is a part of this game and I’m sick of seeing people complain about bungie rewarding you for playing both kinds of content in the game.

Yes I agree with you 100%. I think if it's a Crucible weapon, sure have a Crucible mode to complete it. If the weapon is generic then it should only be PVE modes with an option for a PVP path. What they did with Stasis aspects was gold. You had a choice of how to complete it. Strikes, Gambit or Crucible. They should adopt this for all catalysts and quests moving forward. Then we can have the best of all worlds in Destiny. Alas even that won't please the masses. Tough crowd!

After 7 years of watching them take the "Halo combined with WoW" MMO they started with into a hamster wheel looter/shooter that requires PvP because they don't have enough content to keep it fresh, I've finally realized this game is never going to be the one I fell in love with again. Sorry, just my opinion, but if you don't like how Bungie handles the game find something that you enjoy playing without being forced into crucible (and gambit for a lot of people) to feel like you're getting the full experience. It's your choice, but there's still over two years of feeling this way in your future if you don't move on. Bungie's not changing the formula. They don't have the resources to make parts of the game optional and continue to claim it's a GaaS.

Basically, it's to get people to play all parts of the game to get your monies worth. With a track record like that, why would you buy a game if you hate to do PvP so much. Some people try PvP and grow to love it. You want PvP tips? If you aren't that skilled a few tips can give you huge gains.

10 RepliesAgreed. PvP should be 100% voluntary. This is a PvE game and sending people into PvP who don't want to be there is bad for player morale. To all the "but pvp players don't wanna do pve" loons, this is a PvE game. You're the ones in the wrong spot if you want such a heavy emphasis on pvp. Go play fortnite, it's 100% pvp.

1 ReplyI get you. I think it's right to have Playlist specific rewards but for core items it wouldn't hurt to give short pvp and long pve progression tracks - as they did a few season's back. I also think that these requirements wouldn't be so bad if Bungie's pvp worked well and didn't have a cheater infestation - which has been steadily increasing season to season too. My advice is to give it a go - run in a group, play control, ignore your kdr and teabaggers - you'll likely be fine, though I get it if you don't enjoy it, I don't much either. No one is forcing you but nothing is stopping you either :)

2 RepliesBrother (sister?) I feel you! Last I played PVP was for the Witherhoard catalyst that I *really* wanted & it didn’t ask for much. Bungie locks certain things behind PVP (or raids for that matter) to incentivize participation. I don’t fault them for that (well, except for the Mountaintop debacle where it was OP in PVE but sounded too painful for me to try for). I’ve resigned myself to forsaking PVP & these days it’s OK since there’s so much else to do in the game and lots of other shiny toys to play with.
