Here is a List of Possible Changes to the Shader System to Make it the Best it Can Be:
1. Let us 'Rotate' the Shaders 90 degrees so that certain colors of the Shader land in different areas.
Often enough there is a shader that looks good but doesn't work because certain colors from it land in the wrong areas (Example, the Gold from Precursor Vex Chrome lands on the Fabric instead of the Metal on my Armor). If I could 'rotate' the Shader to make a certain color on it land on a certain part of said thing I'm coloring that'd be great.
2. Let us combine Shaders to make our own personalized Shaders.
Let us choose 4 colors from any of the shaders in Destiny 2 (that we own on our account) and let us combine them in any order we like.
3. Wear and Tear Slider.
Sometimes when I'm coloring something (like a ship) a lot of shaders have a scratched up texture that ruins the look. If we had an option to adjust the wear and tear to make our stuff look freshly painted or old and beat up that'd be cool. Might be hard to implement since shaders aren't just colors, they are textures as well.
4. Let Us Apply Shaders Straight from Collections - Remove Consumables.
Having to pull from collections if I need more shaders seems pretty silly to me. They cost next to nothing anyways and the system just acts as an inconvenience at this point. Shaders should just get rewarded once and then never rewarded again.
5. Un-tintable Colors NEED TO STOP.
Don't know what I'm talking about? Look at the Iron Fellowship Warlock Robes from this Season. Bright Orange metallics on the dangly parts that aren't affected by shaders. A lot of Armor has some kind of un-tintable color somewhere on the set. The Iron Will set has the Red Ink on the class items that is un-colorable but at least that is isolated to it's own pattern and texture on the armor unlike others where parts of the same texture/color are tint-able while the other part isn't like the new Solstice Warlock Robes.
6.Very Important - Give us a Completely BLACK Shader.
Not Grey, Not dark dark brown. Just straight Black with no hidden colors in the Shader that ruin it.
7. Hidden Colors Maybe Shouldn't Be a Thing.
Some shaders have a 5th color in them. The biggest problem is that sometimes that color is placed before all 4 of the Shader's Colors are Applied. And on top of that it's usually a bright ugly color that is out of place.
8. Let Us Preview Shaders on Un-owned Ornaments.
You can't preview Shaders on Ornaments unless you own the ornament and have it applied to the item the ornament goes with. Because of this you can't see what your favorite Shader will look like on the new armor ornaments from Eververse.
I hope I nailed every possible way to make the Shader system better. If I missed anything please let me know. I want to make this list as complete as humanly possible.

Edited by GalaxySpider: 9/22/2020 1:15:06 PMWhy exactly is the new Ghost system great or good? First of all, it was made on purpose to drain further on exotic mats/masterwork cores because right now every perk you want can be obtained by drawing a Ghost from collections for a bit glimmer and shards. - most exotic Ghost have 10% XP and more rewards from Public events completely nullifying ANY individual XP perk you could add with the new system - many legendary Ghosts have specific location based bonuses for material increase (ETZ ghosts for example always have them) - crucible Ghosts offer bonuses purely based on, you guessed it, Crucible (glimmer, XP etc) - many Ghosts even have fixed perks with useful stuff, so you don't even need to waste further mats/glimmer/shards on getting a perfect roll So, let's assume you need a Ghost with a specific loaction based drop bonus and you know that specific Ghost can roll these perks. It won't take long to draw the same Ghost with nearly all locations for the ressource finder. I mean, it takes maybe 5 draw. This system AGAIN, was not created to be QoL improvement for us, the players. It was simply designed to let you grind more. The new system more or less will force us to invest mats right now which could be used elsewhere (weapons).

Yes, grind over content.

If there were an all-black shader that's all I'd use. I know I'm not alone.
-
Good ideas but shaders arent exactly the #1 priority rn

Edited by Kishi: 9/22/2020 12:44:52 AMSolid -blam!-in colors should be available.. don’t make a 3/4 black shader then set the primary as shitty faded green.

Edited by NVMYGT: 9/22/2020 8:09:55 PMGreat post, great idea... but can I highlight something? Make shaders unlockables instead of consumables like the mod system... those use to be one time use consumables and now are permanent unlocks. Its time
-
4 & 6 I think is fair enough. The rest are.. eh.
-
Ghost are getting an update as a means to get more $$. Bungie: content is hard...unless there are $$$ attached to it.
-
the best way to make the shader system better is giving us no choice at all and we wear what we wear

Love these ideas! Well said!
5. Un-tintable Colors NEED TO STOP. 7. Hidden Colors Maybe Shouldn't Be a Thing.
These two seem to be related. There are many parts of gear that don't change color for most shaders, but a few will change them, and it always seems to be one of the "hidden" colors that does it.

I hate the shader system with a passion. It should have been scarped long ago, or at least custom shaders should have been a thing.

Usually I don't like these types of posts simply because it detracts attention from the main issues like cheating and whatnot but I gotta say, I completely, 100% agree with you on everything. Great ideas. Take my upvote.

how would you preview and ornament if you dont own it
