They do listen and when they listen they get blasted about what a stupid choice they made. And just because someone fraises their suggestion in a pleasant and sometimes plausible manner doesn't mean they have to do it. Listening and acting on what you hear are two different things. I can hear the cats outside when they're in heat and I can hear the neighbors when they talk but I don't have to agree with what they're saying no matter how rationally they say it.
