I would honestly prefer players go AFK rather than run ahead. Personally, I like to play the game, not run past it.

But technically aren't both not actually doing much in the way of playing the game for most of the strike, and when the one running ahead actually gets to the boss, they tend to be useful in defeating them, instead of still being inactive. Your point seems invalid, unless you are annoyed that they get to the boss before you and actually weaken it before you get your turn?
Its okay if your point is invalid though, most of them are here on bungie.net. (Probably including mine, but I've made peace with that. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
There's a difference. The AFK player doesn't get in the way, my friend and I are typically happy to have the strike to ourselves, we don't need extra help. The runner will run past optional objective and complete (or at least start) mandatory ones before we get there. So either we keep up with the runner and skip content we would otherwise be happy to interact with or we let the runner go off and complete another set of content that we want to play too. It's all about pacing, AFK players don't alter how I interact with the game, runners do. Not to mention their are actually runners who will grab a further checkpoint and then die forcing us to skip ahead to his location.

After doing all of these strikes so many times, I can't blame the majority that do speed runs honestly. You don't like the way they rush through the strikes? They don't like the way you poke around and have to kill everything, slowing the strike down while they could be moving on to another strike. <---see how that works. When you play with other random people they don't always think like you. Just like you think what they are doing is a dick move, they think the same thing about you. Wanna avoid that? Run with friends, or you can just do what I do... Btw, I agree the dicks that die and force you to skip ahead however, are complete assholes. Of course I solve the problem altogether by just not playing strikes anymore :)
Hell, I don't even play Destiny right now at all anymore. No Destiny hate though, got 1000+ hours in it, and I'll be back as soon as they add more actual content. Until then I'll stick with other games like Fallout 4, Life is Strange, Witcher 3 (again, with the dlc in newgame+), and whatever else I have in several stacks waiting to be played while I was spending that 1000 hours on Destiny.
