OF COURSE Destiny has a better story than anything from the 80s-90s, that's simply the natural progression and evolution of entertainment and technology. I was around then, so don't make it sound like today it's all sunshine and rainbows. You can't use that tired old excuse of "Back in my day" because that doesn't fly here. A developer that incorporates some slap-dash and half-assed story effort should not get a free pass because Pong exists. Things are much different than they were then, and people have come to expect more out of developers of entertainment. The bar has been greatly raised since the days of Pong, and making excuses for developers like Bungie only serves to perpetuate the hackneyed approach to story-telling in the gaming medium.
So before we get into the debate over how much of a story "Kick the Can" had when compared to Destiny, try to get some modern perspective on the gaming industry as a whole, and try to understand why people are upset with the approach that so many developers are beginning to adopt in this new age of micro-transactions and premium priced DLC snippets in lieu of actual, meaningful story and content.
