The problem with Iron Banner goes beyond the balance of levels as well. One of the biggest problems with it is that the losing team gets zero compensation for their efforts. Because of it, if you start out losing, or the other team seems to be a friendly fireteam, people on your side quit and run to another game that they CAN win. As a person who has few to no friends on the game, matchmaking is a bear, especially when 80% of the games end up being 6 on 2 because people leave. And what do I get for all of my hard work and dedication? A whole lot of nothing. Because one man, no matter how good he is, cannot solo a match against six others. Now I admit, I'm not the best player out there. I'm what you might consider average, and I do have some shining moments and some complete fails, but that should balance out. The mechanic of IB, like much of Destiny, rewards you for having online friends and being able to play non-stop. THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE.
Here's a little easy math I did:
If you win a match, with the shader and emblem equipped, your rep increases by 30. From rank 1 to rank 2, you need 1200 rep. So, 1200/30 = 40 games I have to win. Simple enough. Alone, at an average of 11.5 min per game, I need 7.7 hours of pure IB to get to rank 2. Now, as a solo player and because of the mechanics and people dropping out, I win about 1 out of every 6 games. Which means I need 6 times the amount of games. In the end, I have to devote 46 hours to IB just to get from rank 1 to rank 2, which is absurd. I don't want to see what I need for rank 3...

Edited by feralmeerkat: 10/9/2014 3:24:49 PMAgain, all of these rewards you guys are referencing are common to the normal crucible. IB needs to be set apart. It is an event, a different mode. So far, the only difference is that you get IB rep (only if you win) and that it's all control matches. A lot of you seem to be missing the point that, no matter how well you did as an individual, if your team loses, you get nothing new. On top of that, this is a one week event (potentially, and probably, a repeating event) during which you want to make as much progress as possible. That progress should not be hindered by random chance. I am completely fine with grinding out 5-15 rep on 7 trillion losing teams as long as I make progress. Due to the nature of the system of IB, and the understandably selfish minds of the people playing it who only want to win straight out and don't want to work for it, I can make no progress, or substantially less progress for the amount of work I put into it. Yes, this happens everyday, and life isn't fair. Especially in competitions. But hiding behind the idea of "nothing is fair" doesn't make it right, or make it good for business. The player wants to feel rewarded for his work. Maybe by scaling rep to the losing team based on performance, and giving them 2-10 rep points apiece, I don't know. As it stands, I could log in, AFK my guy in the IB playlist, and go to my job for the day, and depending on how lucky I am on team pulls, I could have ranked up by the end of the week for no in-game work whatsoever. That isn't right. Instead, I don't cheat the system, I do play for hours, and I really try. And I'm getting almost no where.

Not true i have been on the winning team plenty of times and no one got a reward after the game was won, and it happen a couple of times and some guy on the losing team gets a legendary engram ? DOES that sound fair
-
what hes talking about is Rep in order to unlock gear for IB, if you loose you dont get rep, however if your doing bounties that is not affected for example if youre doing the AR head shots bounty, your kills will stack up even if you win or loose
-
You get crucible rep(or whatever faction you have set up) and crucible marks(which are needed to buy iron banner gear anyways) so you are getting something. You are also getting a chance at free gear, coins, engrams, shaders, mats, etc. Your actually getting a lot. Not everyone deserves to get something. That guy who went 2-15 and made us lose shouldn't get prizes for doing bad. It's a team game. If I play baseball and we lose the game I don't expect a trophy because I scored and my teammates didn't. I accept the loss(and potential other free stuff) and move on to the next game where hopefully I'll do a little better and get a better team.

Edited by Final fantasy: 10/9/2014 3:26:25 PMPlease don't talk like you know how it works because you also get nothing if you win everytime or have the highest score. Everything is Blam-ing random so win or lose, 9999 or 0 kills, you will get a reward or nothing lol.

Plus there are bounties to speed the process and it says on the IB post that those who win are rewarded. IB is made to reward skilled players and skilled teams.
-
You shouldn't get anything if you lose that's about the only thing they did get right just imagine if it would've been under rumble mode you wouldn't get anything for second place no so what's the difference
-
I agree, I've seen more lop sided teams in IB then in normal crucible. I had 4-6 games in a row with 5 people on my team and the same map :(

Thanks for the reply, you should join our clan. I made it for that very reason. Check us out TRU3 Affinity http://www.bungie.net/en/Clan/Detail/150441

Edited by feralmeerkat: 10/9/2014 2:22:00 PMI do, and I've completed a few, but the bounties tend to be rather technical, or you need rank 2 for the class item to complete them. They do not follow everyone's play style, which is almost necessary in a competitive multiplayer. You want to finish the bounty, so you have to play with a weapon or item you're not used to playing with, but on the other hand, you want to play with what you're used to so you can play your best competitively and have a chance to win. Limiting weapons for bounties is ok for PVE because there's no competition, and there's no unique reward for winning. PVP, not so much.

Try completing IB bounties to speed it up, it helps.
-
They need a separate mode for people to play control, but no parties can go in together. And then one for full fire teams
-
They don't get any rep compensation. The random rewards are the same as the crucible, so they don't contribute to making IB different.
-
Losing team in IB gets no compensation? My team lost and someone on my team got Mote of Light
-
they got mote of light cause they levelled up
-
The only way he would know if the losing team member got a mote of light would be if it showed in the rewards, or if the team member announced it. If the team member announced it, it likely wouldn't have been mentioned here.

You have some very good points. I personally haven't experienced much dropout in my matches, but I've only played about 10-15. The lack of any reward for losses does skew efficiency methods towards quitting for opportunity for more rep.
