You can't say that something has always worked a given way when you have a sample size of exactly one. Destiny isn't an MMO like WoW, and it doesn't claim to be. The idea behind making these expansion packs is to expand the game, not merely to force players down a different path from the one they spent so long forging. They should (and hopefully intend to) give players new options instead of replacements. As for your argument that they spent too much time on the gear to have it go to waste, they also spent a load of time on the old gear. Just imagine all of the choices we'll have by year 10 if they keep expanding the game in the way they are currently progressing. We'll be able to play with newer players and do combat with weapons they haven't even heard of and that's really cool.

  • You say that we're going to do battle years down the road, with or against other guardians who are newer, with these year one weapons when these year 1 weapons won't be remotely as effective as weapons that are 4-5 years down the road? I highly doubt that. No one will use a 365 fatebringer when there are other weapons at the max 1000 or some bullshit. So where do you think we will show newer guardians our badass old year one gear? Probably not ever, it will sit in the vault in the first row never to be pulled out unless you decide to run VoG after a not running it for 3 years.. I want the new guns they create to be good choices. But however if what people want to show are weapons from year one in year 5 then there would have to be a way to max them out as well. Shoot, even if they don't let you do it for another year that would be ok.

That's the point I was making. I personally don't see why anyone (like the OP) would want the old weapons to be non-upgradeable. Your 365 Fatebringer would end up at 1000 or whatever to match the new weapons, if you so chose. Like I said in my other post, newer weapons shouldn't necessarily just be inherently better, but alternative and balanced choices. Not to mention that our old weapons will remain just as effective in the regular crucible 5-10 years down the road if the crucible remains the way it is.

  • This is exactly the way I feel about the entire ascendable weapons debate from expansion to expansion
