I agree with what you're saying, but why are they letting us take gear that's already outclassed, and ascend it further? If it's going to immediately be worthless when the new weaps / armor get here, then why give us the etheric light? It's a complete waste then. Besides, take Fatebringer for instance. It's a raid weapon. Are they going to wipe out all the weapons from Atheon, and create brand new ones? If not, then the raid weapons are worthless, and why bother doing the raid? We do it now for the great gear. If that's out, might as well close the door to the Vault of Glass, and throw away the key. Here's my personal idea for gear, and the future of it: Leave the vault space we have as it is. Allow for all of the weapons/gear in the game to be ascended every year. Make the new year (Destiny Year), each anniversary on its release day in September. Whatever weapons/gear that you don't have ascended to the latest and greatest levels for that year, will be permanently left at whatever level they are at. This will force people to make hard decisions. With limited vault space, and lots of new weapons and gear, you'll have to decide if that older weapon or armor piece is REALLY worth it to you, to sacrifice that bit of vault space, instead of keeping newer gear. Each year as more and more weapons/gear come out, it'll make it harder to hang onto that Fatebringer, since it will be taking up a slot that newer gear would be filling but, that good old Fatebringer will still be up at the latest and greatest levels, if you so wish to keep ascending it each year. Years from now, it'll make this year 1 gear REALLY rare when someone has some, while at the same time making the year 1 gear still viable to use, all the while new weapons and gear keep coming out. Perhaps one day they'll bring out an awesome handgun, and you'll finally part with that year 1 Fatebringer, that you've had for so long.

  • Yes except there would be no reason for players to move forward. If they are already content with what they have then they will see no need in grinding the new content or grinding for new gear. Which means less people playing and less time spent playing. Do you seriously think Bungie will allow that to happen? They might very well allow you to upgrade old weapons, but the means of doing so will almost CERTAINLY be in the endgame so you will still be forced to set aside all your old gear and grind to get new gear to replace it in order to be able to do the end game content.
