What about ... and this is a crazy idea, I know, but what if ... players had that choice? What if little Jimmy wants to use the new Suros sniper, but little Tommy wants to keep using Atheon's Epilogue? Would it be so catastrophic to the meta, would the world start to crumble around you if you're playing a new strike and someone is using a Word of Crota? Crazy, huh? It's such a simple concept, and it revolves around player choice and diversity.
Crazy, huh? It's such a simple concept, and it revolves around player choice and diversity.
That diversity crap needs to stop. As with any game the same 10 weapons will be used by everyone once they acquire them. You're begging for sheer stagnation.

  • If the weapon pool never rotates balancing new content only becomes harder with each subsequent release.
If the weapon pool never rotates balancing new content only becomes harder with each subsequent release.
If the weapon pool constantly rotates, it becomes hard to find motivation to grind for the the cool guns get invested in the guns you have by levelling them up and upgrading them when you know it's all temporary.

  • They brought in that 'system" because they did not have enough quality weapons/gear to replace what was already there. For TTK they are saying that they will.

  • Yeah that makes perfect sense and in a perfect world that would work. But in a world where money is everything they are going to milk AS MUCH time out of you as they can. So even IF they allowed you to level old gear up they would most likely make such an item an endgame drop so you would STILL have to use the new gear for awhile before you can switch back to the old.

  • Because in order for progress to be made there needs to be change. Or are you saying you wanna use the same exact guns for the next 9 years?

  • Yes, I do. I want to use The Devil You Know in Year Ten. I want to kill the the Final Boss with The Comedian and think to myself: I have become Legend. I'm looking froward to Year Two, and I will adopt the new weapons as well (as a matter of fact, I'm looking forward to that too). But why not make the old stuff viable? Bungie wanted to have us to be attached to our weapons, and we are. As silly as it sounds, we have moments and memories associated with those lines of code; and I'm not willing to give up those Year One moments.

  •
Because in order for progress to be made there needs to be change.
It's a pretty statement, but it makes more sense if you're a politician trying to fix the economy. But I don't see how it relates to game development. Does a street fighter game have to abandon old characters to add new ones? Of course not!
Or are you saying you wanna use the same exact guns for the next 9 years?
Maybe I do, maybe I don't. Why not have those options available?

  • Except that is a fighting game and this is a FPS RPG. Two completely different concepts with completely different priorities.
Because in order for progress to be made there needs to be change.
It's a pretty statement, but it makes more sense if you're a politician trying to fix the economy. But I don't see how it relates to game development. There is no logical or quantifiable reason that an Abyss Defiant having higher damage would seemingly harm progress in Destiny. I want to keep all mine old ones as trophies, but use new ones (Same thing I did for the past 2 expansions). They should make a showcase section that people would be able to view and see all the glorious guns that we have gotten over the course of the franchise.
