Yet for the avid player, a progression path for that old gear is an incentive to keep playing. Chances are, the new gear will have subpar perks compared to the old, even after the update. I like the idea of carrying my gear forward, and would like the option to do so. Thats why i like destiny so far, i can carry my played character from one expansion/game (if it holds true) to the next without starting from scratch

  • Except you won't be starting from scratch. Just like in TDB and HoW your gear will help you get to where you need to be, but won't be able to replace the new gear.

  • Regardless, i still want to progress my old gear, and look for stuff worthy of letting go of my old. In the event nothing is worthy, then i will want to max my old goto. If i cant, i will truly be a sad panda

  • Then prepare to be disappointed.

  • That is a disappointing statement. Basically you just said you would be happy with replacing all of our current gear even if the new stuff is sh1tty. You should not be fine with that situation.

How did I say that? The new gear will be numerically better of course, but perk wise its a roll of the dice. This is not a perfect world where everyone gets everything they ever wanted.

  • TL;DR at bottom. You are assuming the new stuff will be better. And with the level balancing, think fighting level 4 stuff as a 34 on patrol, the numerics of it all doesnt really matter all that much anyway. The guy you responded to said he would use the new stuff if it was better, or stick with the old. He said he would be sad if he didnt have the choice. You said, prepared to be disappointed. This indicates you are fine with not having a choice of keeping our good stuff if the new stuff sucks. This whole thread you are championing the new gear regardless of whether or not it will be worthy replacements of our current gear. That is disappointing. Bungie should not be removing or rendering weapons obsolete just to promote preceived progression. Think about tdb. The expansion didnt add many new weapons. They just took out the old ones and replaced them with reskinned, renamed weapons. There are exceptions of course. Look at HoW. The new weapons are lackluster at best with crappy perks. If they had said all of your gear and weapons are now no good and could only use the kell and queens sh1t, would that be ok? I know i would not be good with that and i would have stopped playing. I know many would feel the same way. Yes, new stuff is exciting and refreshing, but not if its just to artificially promote change. Etheric light was a wonderful idea in HoW. Why? Because now people can ascend gear and actually vary their loadout and their looks. Do i still use old stuff? Yes, because Bungie hasnt given me a reason to stop using it and move on to better weapons. If they do, then i wont need to upgrade my old weapons. But if my only choice is a sh1tty weapon because i dont have a choice, thats bullsh1t. Tl;dr: having the choice to upgrade due to the lack of compelling new gear is a good thing and will help keep the game alive.

  • Um I am not assuming anything. The guns in TTK will FACTUALLY be better than the guns in Vanilla+DLC due to the damage cap being increased. Or are you gonna sit there and tell me the level 50 damage cap is gonna be 365 just like it is right now?

First, the level cap hasnt been confirmed yet. Second of all, just because they have a higher damage cap doesnt mean they will factually be better. Look at the current crop of autos. There are only a couple that are viable go to weapons, but i would take a vanilla one over any of them any day. And the same can be said of just about every weapon class. Just because they are newer and have higher numbers doesnt mean they are better.

  • First it doesn't matter whether or not the level cap has been confirmed. We know that the weapons in TTK will be numerically superior than the ones we currently have. Secondly yes if the damage cap is raise that means that they will be do more damage which makes them better. Yes you could try and say that *Insert gun here* would be better if you could raise it to the cap, but that point is moot until we know whether or not that is even a thing. If I take a Fatebringer and use it yeah it feels great and yeah the perks are nice, but that won't mean jack squat if I can take a handcannon from TTK and pump out bigger and better numbers than what Fatebringer can. This is not an argument about perks, looks or the feel of the weapon. This is a discussion about the factual improvement in damage that we will be seeing from TTK. I could care less what gun I am using, what it does, or where I got it from. The point is killing the things in front of me. Since the guns in TTK are gonna be doing more damage due to the higher cap pardon me if I don't use an inferior weapon because of nostalgia and feels.

  • Once again, a higher damage cap doesnt really mean sh1t unless the weapon stats support higher damage output. Using handcanons as an example, what if all of the new ones have a higher cap, but half the impact. That definitely will affect damage output. And Bungie has a history, so far, of reducing stats. Weapons have become relatively weaker with each expansion. All im saying is there is a reason people are still using vanilla and VoG weapons, because the newer ones have not been worthy replacements despite the higher level caps. Ascending or not, i would still be using my VoC because to me, there hasnt been a better scout introduced yet. But, if they make a better one, not just one with a higher level cap, i will gladly abandon it. Again, compelling new weapons is the key. Not change just for the sake of change.

  • Oh my god let me put my point more simply for you. *Insert un-ascended weapon here* - Better feel - Better perks - Smaller numbers in the same amount of time TTK Weapon - Not so great perks - Not so great feel - Bigger numbers in the same amount of time. In a game where your job is to kill things. The gun that has the higher DPS is the one that is superior. That is a factual statement. You don't get to use something just because "Muh Feelz" and "Muh Nostalgia" and get to completely ignore whether or not its statistically better than other things available. If you do, then you are going to be called a fool as you should be.

Learn about the game mechanics. Its not just about the damage number. That is why even though all the weapons can have the same damage cap, but different actual dps. Do some research. But you obviously have no idea so im not even going to continue with this any longer.
