Exotic Sword Quest Tips

Hey there fellow Exceptionals! I have recently finished two of the three Exotic sword quests and have a few tips for those looking to get it done soon. Lets assume you already have one of the swords, i.e: Sol Edge, Void Edge, or Arc Edge. To get the exotic quest line from Lord Shaxx you need to infuse your sword to 280+ AND have the hidden upgrade (unveiled when you infuse to 280+) completed and upgraded. Once you have met these requirements Lord Shaxx will present you with the exotic quest step 1. Tips for step one: For the Major kills, just play as normal, or hit up the strike playlists, but use the sword any time you see yellow health bars. You'll rack up those kills in no time. You can get the 25 guardian kills quick if you and a buddy head into rumble in the crucible and have a good ol' beat down with the sword hilt. Yes! Thats right, the Sword hilt counts as a sword kill. It takes two hits to kill a Guardian at full health. Tips for step 2: In order to open the asylum doors, which you need to do to get to Ecthar, Sword of Oryx, you need to kill the three boomer knights near the door, each has a different over shield, around the same time. I was able to weaken each one and then Storm Trance super to kill them. It took me about 8 seconds to kill all three and the door did open. As for killing Ecthar, Sword of Oryx clear out the rooms extra baddies and then whip out your sword. I found it best to pop a heavy synth for full ammo and then do a two step attack pattern to down him. Hit (R1), guard (L2), hit, guard, hit, repeat until he becomes ash. -Now here comes the reason for this post.- Tips for Step 3 a.k.a. Farmageddon: Shaxx will task you with gathering some super rare materials found only in the themed resource nodes matching your swords type ( Helium filaments for Sol Edge, Relic Iron for Void Edge, and Spin Metal for Arc Edge) The ultra rare materials only drop from the actual resource nodes and not chests. You can make this easier on yourself if you have a ghost that highlights the material nodes you are looking for. You will also need to get ability kills matching the element of the sword (solar, void, arc) Now here is where you can get crafty. *TOP TIP FOR GREAT SUCCESS* (read this) When you first upgrade/infuse your sword to 280+, the character you did it on will get the quest from Lord Shaxx. This means you can get the sword on your other characters and transfer them to your main, then infuse/upgrade to get the quest on your main for each sword! ALSO... When you have already gone through the Farmageddon step for one sword on your character, you will automatically get moved onto the Farmageddon step for the other swords that you do on that character, and will not need to go thought the first 2 steps of Major/Guardian killing and Ecthar, Sword of Oryx murder. Once you are done with Farmageddon, Lord "wait forever" Shaxx will have you wait until next Armsday until you can have access to a level 42, 300 recommended light, Sunless Cell strike. I recommend at everyone have at least 280 light, and a void weapon for over shields. It gets dicy! Tip for Boss fight: This is it Guardians, drop into the cell and get ready to run for the next ten minutes. Here is the breakdown: Boss comes out, you shoot him until first wave of Adds spawn. The first wave will have the Arc sword knight come in. If you are on the Arc sword quest line, you need to weaken him and then leave him alone until the boss is NEAR death, not after. The second wave of adds brings in the Void boomer knight, same deal here people. Weaken and leave him alone. Third wave brings in the Solar boomer knight. Also the same tactic, weaken and ignore. Now, even if all of you are 300+ having all three knights up during this fight makes it near impossible to get damage on the boss. I would recommend talking with your fireteam before hand and agree on which guy to keep alive and who to kill. I was happy to run my team though three times instead of one massive failure of trying to get all three down at once. Once the boss is low, and i mean like 1/8 inch of health, kill the remaining knight right after the boss fades out/retreats. If your timing is good the boss will reappear right after you down the knight. Then go HAM. Congrats, you now need to talk to Lord Shaxx and receive you new death dealing weapon of your dreams. You need not worry about losing your Legendary quality Sword, you get to keep it! I hope this helps Guardians!
