Dark Light: The Destiny Chronicles Chapter One

Ring! Ring! Ring! Nate's phone rang and rang but his friend, Cody, never answered. Nate looked at his watch for the tenth time and muttered "Come on, come on." His mom would be home any minute now, and he wanted desperately to not be home when she got home. He had gotten a F on his last test and his mom had been notified of it. He shuddered. If he was home when his mom got back then. "Nate! Naaate?" The phone said. Huh, that's odd, I didn't know phones could talk[/i ] Nate mused. Wait! That's Cody! Nate scrambled to grab the phone and talk to his friend. "My place?" Cody asked. "Your place," Nate confirmed. Nate walked over to the kitchen and started to write a note to his mom explaining that he had needed some air when he heard a car pull up. Uh oh, that's my mom, Nate realized. He scribbled out the rest of the note, shove the pen in his pocket and hurtled towards the back door. Click! Nate was at the door but his mom was coming in. He threw open the door and ran. Dang it! Nate cursed. He'd forgotten his old sparrow. He couldn't go home for it now, he'd be done for. First getting a F then leaving to his friend's house without his sparrow or phone would ensure his demise. Nate ran and ran until finally, covered in sweat he arrived at Cody's. He waited for a bit in front of Cody's old, yellow, wood house to cool down.he wiped the sweat from his brow and watched it soak into the porch's wood. Im so glad I don't have a wooden house, Nate thought. Nate raised his hand to knock but the door swung open before he could. "Nate, what have you been doing? You've been there for almost 30 minutes!" Cody exclaimed. "Hello? Earth to Nate, this is Commander Cody here, how can I help?" "Huh? What did you say?" "Your hopeless Nate, I hope you know that." "No I'm not!" Nate said, aghast, "your the one who didn't let me in! I've been waiting forever! How could you let me stand out here for 30 whole minutes without any support, on this wooden porch? Do you know how old this is? It's ancient! Trees are basically extinct! And to..." "Woah, Nate, I didn't mean it, gosh." Nate responded, "anyways you ready to go?" "Sure, I guess." Cody and Nate left Cody's house without a word and walked aimlessly in an icy silence. Nate stared jealously at the people on their sparrows. He wished he'd had his so he could zip around with the click of a button. "Nate, I need to go potty, will you wait here?" "Sure." Cody walked into Mya-4's Haircuts setting off the electrical bells and the girls squeals. Nate leaned against the wall starring out at the black and yellow road. While he watched, he noticed an EV-30 sparrow, the crème of the of the sparrow crop. It's tri boosters allowing maximum handling, and speed. The orange flames over the body looked like the would burn the blue frame off. The sparrow stopped, Nate had been so engrossed in the sparrow, he didn't see the Warlock who was crossing. Sweet, I get to look at that sparrow more! He was gaping at the air brakes that let you do tricks in the air when he saw the sparrow lurch forward. Snapped out of his awe, and feeling disappointed that he couldn't look any longer looked up to see why the sparrow lurched. He looked first at the back of the sparrow and seeing nothing wrong, moved his gaze to the front of the vehicle. The front was splatter red and had a crumpled warlock beneath it. Nate reached for his phone but then remembered that he left it at home. Maybe it was an accident, he rationalized he couldnt have done that on purpose! Nate breathed a sigh of relief when the guardian's ghost popped out. Bang! Nate stepped back in horror when he saw the ghost shudder then explode. The sparrow's driver turned and winked at him before speeding away. What the... Nate was interrupted by a soft landing behind him and whirled to see what it was. He was met with a punch to the face and Darkness. Nate came to in an old metal chair ropes tying him to it. I can't see anything! Nate thought. His eyes couldn't make anything out in this black, much less anything to help him escape. He tried wiggling but found that the chair was nailed down. He thought hard about how to get out. Nate realized that he had his pen in his pocket! He fumbled with it for a bit but then got his pen out and in his hand. He started to saw at the bindings as a bright flash filled the room. In that brief flash, Nate saw a circle of white faced people with no faces, all around him. Nate felt something singe his hand and know the pen out of it. Nate cringed in pain. "Ah ah ah, you can do that you bad boy you need a lesson from papa," a creepy voice said. "From wh..." Nate's world was dark again.
