• Mission Statement

Dedicated to raising awareness and knowledge about the issues that we, as a society, face all too often. This isn't a group for disrespect or baseless assertions. Keep it civil. “The fundamental cause of the trouble is that in the modern world the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt.”

This is StW; a few ground rules

Welcome to Spread the Word. I created this group some time after my depression awareness thread. I wanted to do one specifically about suicide - which is the first thread of this group - and figured I should make a group for stuff like this. The group, primarily, is dedicated to raising the awareness about, and discussing, any issues that afflict society in today's world, be they psychological, political, philosophical or societal. As a natural extension of this, this group is focused around promoting intellectual and respectful discourse - particularly in the Off-Topic forum.
Rules: - Callousness and unnecessary insensitivity will not be tolerated on any issue. While being emotionally detached is okay, and even desirable, when discussing sensitive issues, being outright disrespectful or offensive or willfully ignorant will result in a ban. - Be coherent in your responses. One or two word responses which only serve to make you look more intelligent don't help anybody. - Don't be dogmatic. No matter how correct you think you are, sounding fanatical in your opinions will only serve to alienate people. If people don't understand, or you wish to continue a discussion, articulate yourself clearly. - There is no need to be hostile if somebody doesn't understand something or agree with you. If they are acting like dicks around a sensitive issue, or refuse to properly substantiate their argument, then it is permissible; try to resist, and report any users/members who are disrespectful or offensive. - Always try to treat others with a degree of civility, regardless of their intelligence or opinions.
