Hello everyone,
Slightly different face this time around, though El Burninator and I do share a decently similar colour palette. He has good taste. However, I'm not him, as I do hope you've gathered by now. I'm going to be the one supplying you with clever lines and sources to all things going on in the community each week, both the Bungie.net community as well as the Destiny community.
Forgive me, but this week is not going to be as informative as the ones to come. This is more like my introduction to you. Some of you may know me from the Help category, or maybe another, but I figured I'd take this time to list my many great and admirable traits and achievements.
All kidding aside, you're probably wondering what's going on here. What's the difference between the Bungie.net community and the Destiny community? What's the point of this when we have the Bungie Weekly Update? How do I get that title beside my name? TITLES?! WHERE?!
The Septagon
Well, I'd first like to talk to you about this little place we've got right here. This place is Bungie.net. Some of you are here on the site while others are here on Bungie's Destiny Companion app. It doesn't matter how you've gotten here, just that you're here. The Bungie community is an ancient and grizzled group that goes back all the way to before some of you were born. If you want Bungie's history in an excellent video, dating back to 1991, check out O Brave New World on Bungie's YouTube channel. The community popped up all over the place as Bungie started making and releasing games. The original Bungie community members didn't even have this place as a home yet. It wasn't until the 13th of June in 1995 that Bungie.net came to be (we don't talk about Bungie.com).
Fast forward over the years and you'll see how the site evolves, hosting characters such as the Webmaster and the Disembodied Soul. You'd even witness the rise of the Septagon. The Septagon, also known as the Seventh Column, is the nickname for the Bungie community. Being a part of the Septagon doesn't mean you aren't a part of the Destiny community, by any means, but it holds a different quality to it. The members of the Septagon can love Myth, Marathon, Halo, Destiny, and maybe even Gnop!, but we're here for more than just that. We're here for Bungie and for each other. And no, you can't call it a heptagon.
Become Legend
Many of you newer members have come to this site in search of becoming Legend. Don't worry about becoming a Legendary member yet, not until you're at least Heroic to us. Perhaps one day you'll even ascend into a Mythic in the eyes of the Webmaster, but don't get your hopes up, Newbies. You see, you've stumbled onto something great and that can become greater with you help, and I mean that. You are a key in helping to make this community great. Listen, learn, and contribute.
Some of you may be wondering, "What's the point in all this?"
Well, this is your insight into the people who make up the Bungie.net community and the Destiny community. Each week I'll share a little bit of knowledge on Bungie and the Septagon's history, some interesting developments the Destiny community, and really anything else that you might find interesting. I won't be doing this alone. As I said before, you're needed. At the end of each weekly update I'm going to propose a question or topic I want you to sound off on. Hopefully this will bring up some good discussions so that the newbies of the community can learn our ways.
Of course, the Community Mail Sack will also return, so stay tuned to that in coming weeks.
Until then, I'll see you star side.
Subjects of the week:
For the Ancients: What makes/made the Septagon great?
For the Newbies: How can we help you enjoy this site more?
Curious about hanging out with the community?
Game Nights!
This section is absent this week, as there is really nothing to report on. Well, at least nothing that the Supdate didn't already cover.
Just wanted to give a quick status update. I, Mechetti, will run the Game Night section(s) of the new Septagon Weekly Update, just as I did before with the Supdates. And from now on I'll be covering Game Nights on a Friday to Friday, not Wednesday to Wednesday, basis.
I'm also always looking, and asking, for help. So, don't be afraid to shoot me a PM if you're interesting in being a part of the currently 1 man Game Night crew. If you're hosting a Game Night and want it featured, just send me a link to the thread and a small description of what the Game Night is going to be all about.
And again, if you have any suggestions, feedback, or inquiries, please PM me!
Bump!
-
The "Why isn't this pinned?" bump.

The Septagon is made up of great people. It's not a single forum and it isn't tied to any game...that's what makes it great. Anyone can join the community to make friends and have a laugh.
-
This community was wonferfully supportive when my mother got sick and eventually died 3 months later. I didn't really expect it and was humbled by it. It eventually led to me changing my user name from Jaywalkas to Im Here to Help (though I did open the choice up to a vote). I like to give back and help out members who may need similar support when I can (when I'm not working ridiculous shifts).

The Seventh Column is great because it's real, for a lack of a better term. Around the WWW, the Seventh Column is the only internet community I've found that people can actually identify with. Even being a part of the Destiny community seems impersonal, but being of the Seventh Column is almost a badge of honor, and it's how true friends can really be made.

Wonderfully done. To answer the last question all I can say it The friends I made. That's what made my experience here great. Playing with them in game and hearing their voice after years of being over texts Learning about their lives and being involved with them.

What is this
-
I'm still a long way from being a legendary, and impossibly far away from being a mythic, but ever since I joined the site on March, it's been a blast. This community is very unique and bad and good ways, sure the flood can get out of hand, and people in #Destiny post topics in the wrong place, but that's what makes these forums our forums.

im here to learn also you guys owe me a rematch from the beginning of reach when i was a nub

Aside from the cool name, the best part about the Septagon is probably the attitudes people have. In general, I've found that people here love making friends as much as they love t-bagging them the next second. It's a fun, laid back community, and despite being huge in size, it always feel very personal.
