Collective Medal Counts?

While we can pull medal information on a per-match basis, is there an endpoint that reflects the total medal count of a character in PVP? Or does Bungie's site just look at the entirety of the match history in a way that lets them poll for all medals collected each match (this sounds inefficient but who knows!)?
