Kills with Ward of Dawn - clarification?

This was a conversation sparked by the Destiny Tracker population tracking, brought about by this reddit thread. The questionable behavior in question here is that there are kills listed under "Supers" for "Ward of Dawn" (and by extension, Radiance). This is confusing because WoD does no damage, and therefore cannot inherently get kills. (Radiance by extension is a player "state" but does not itself get kills.) So the question is, how can WoD have anything reporting as kills? Since there's clearly a non-zero number there, the question then becomes what behavior is generating these kill counts. The leading theory is that players who get kills via other means while WoD is active will count as WoD kills. However this itself needs a bit of clarification - does the player need to be inside the WoD? Does the player need to have one of the modifiers (armor/blessing/weapons of light) active? does the WoD just need to be active? To complicate it further, do kills with WoD then double-count as kills? For example, if I get a "WoD" kill with a shotgun, do I get a +1 for *both* shotgun kills AND WoD kills? Does that affect the overall kill total as well? Another theory presented is that WoD Kills counts the "support" medal, wherein your teammates get a kill while they have your blessing/weapon/armor of light active. This behavior would not be able to explain Radiance though, and the concerns about affecting kill count above still apply. Anyway, just looking for some clarification on how the stat works. Thanks!
