Do hashes and/or the manifest ever change, and if so, when/how often?

Sorry for asking so many questions, lol. Hopefully this one has a simple answer. Is it safe to hardcode in hashes into an application I'm using (like, say, the vendor hash for Eris Morn), or do they change? Similarly, does the manifest ever change, and if so, when? I'd imagine it likely gets updated when DLC drops, but does that update change the hashes for old items/vendors/etc?

 • So much for linking directly to the comment lol... so if you check https://www.bungie.net/en/Clan/Post/39966/80722884/0/0/1 and go down to VThornheart's comment on Nov 19 2014 at 2:27:48 PM
* Indeed, hashes should never change between database versions (for any property referred to as a "hash" other than talent node hashes... more info in the next paragraph on that). If they ever change, it'll be a problem for both of us. ;) Now, the detail within the definition that is keyed by that hash can change, but at least the hash itself should be unchanged.
that whole thread has some good stuff between VivekNZ and VThornheart, if you're looking for hash stuff, specifically around that comment I think has some good stuff to note. I linked not to be a D but because these threads are not exactly easy to navigate... very small reply links.. easy to miss stuff! Hope that helps!

 • Haelix is right on - but just to note as an addendum, if you don't get the latest content, there will be data that won't be correct (new items that are missing, talent nodes/vendor sale items that may be incorrect). A good practice would be to periodically poll for whether the manifest has changed on our side - say, once a day - and if we have released a new manifest to download it automatically and update your own data with it. That way, the window in which you have out-of-date data is minimized. New content tends to release much more frequently than DLCs - every version update that we've done so far comes with a content update, and thus new manifest data!
