Headset Suggestions?

I've been mostly paying solo (other than the random matchmaking) since Destiny came out, but since joining here and playing with a few people, I think that it's finally time to break down and get a headset with a mic on it so that I can more easily communicate for Strikes and Raids. Anyone have any suggestions that's a good bang for the buck? I can't spend a ton on a set (probably something like $30-35 max), so I've been looking at cheap ones at local stores like Wal-Mart (both Bluetooth and USB - the kind that only cover one ear). I've also looked at something like the Turtle Beach PLa set, since it's moderately priced and seems to have good reviews. Any thoughts/suggestions on a good set? Comparisons between Bluetooth and USB as far as sound quality, pros/cons for a "one-ear" set vs a "two-ear" set? Thanks!

  • Thanks for all of the input. I ended up going with the Turtle Beach PLa headset. From all of the reviews I read, they seemed to be the best quality for the price. I considered wireless/bluetooth for convenience, but seeing the length of the cord on these, I don't think that will be an issue. Hopefully they will be here soon...

  • I too finally broke down and got earphones. Don't go cheap you will regret it later when you cant understand a word people afe saying and you are nursing a major headache from and awkward fit. I have the Turtle Beach earforce PX21's and they work great with seperate game / mike volumes and Dolby Surround and only paid $35 + tax for them on e-bay they are factory refurbished with warranty. They normally sell for $80+ depending where you get them. Good earphones for a good price and they work and feel great.

    • I just picked up a standard Bluetooth mic. plantronics m55 paid 20 bucks off of eBay, 10 hour battery life, volume control, haven't had any issues with heading anyone sold buy very happy with purchase. Although I do have to say if I had more money to spend I might have gone with the wireless turtle beach think px22 runs 80 new or about 50 refurbished.

    • I have to be the guy that says don't cheap out. I don't make a ton of money but Sound is important, and I went with a pricey pair of bluetooth wireless turtle beach headset. You can save a good bit of money by getting a wired pair, but the sound on these is noticeably better than my speakers, 3d surround sound, crisp and clear, they're amazing. I remember playing skyrim with these things for the first time and hearing sounds I'd never heard through my speakers before. If you're able, I'd say spend on a good pair and treat your ears.

I have the Turtle Beach PLa headset and it's AMAZING. It feels and sounds like it cost 3 times what they sell it for. My suggestion is that headset for someone looking for quality on a budget. Also, I hate wireless due to the charge times and cheap feel of them (owned about 4-5 wireless earpieces/headsets my whole life) and love the "never need to charge" aspect of wired. Also, the. PLa headset has a cord long enough for me to sit across the room and play with a bit of slack still in the cord. The PLa also does something that wireless bluetooths don't. Independent volume control. Mute your TV and turn up the volume on your headset and you have a much better gaming experience. I don't even want to upgrade to the more expensive turtle beaches because of how happy I am with this one.

      • I have used a Turtle Beach Ear Force PBT and really liked it. Scored it for $12 on sale at Radio Shack (The Source here in Canada). http://www.turtlebeach.com/product-detail/ps3-headsets/ear-force-pbt/45 I just started using the PS Gold Headset and it is pretty good. Feels a bit heavy when you are wearing it though. I got it for $20 two weeks ago at Best Buy in Canada. It was on for $40 off and then I was able to apply a $40 off coupon that they sent out to as part of their gamer reward zone program.

      • I have used a Logitech USB headset for work( VOIP conf calls ) for almost ten years and it works pretty well for gaming too. Good quality for a reasonable price. Doesn't need re-charging like a wireless model but you will need to be within distance of your PS3. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0091F8F7A/ref=pd_aw_sims_4?pi=SY115&simLd=1
