Discussion - Vault Space
Should bungie increase vault space and if so should you be able to store one of everything?
This topic comes up so much on Reddit and every time I see it I feel like I am part of the minority. Thought I would pose the question here to get everyone's take.
It seems like the consensus on reddit is that I deserve to keep as much stuff as I want and that bungie needs to make it happen. I feel though that part of the challenge of loot based games like this is making the tough decisions on what to keep and what to shard. Should there be enough space to hold the current set of exotics (meaning year one), yes, but after that it should be down to just what you need and a few favs you don't want to let go. One day may you regret sharding your shadow price when ARs get a buff, sure but in the end you will probably be glad you freed the space for the gallythorn that dropped day one in the taken king.
I don't need to have everything, I don't want to have everything, I just want to make sure I have the best gear in each slot and anything else is gravy.
Anyways, hopefully that made sense. What do you guys think?

Easy fix would to move the vault to your ship, low memory demands on that screen and you wouldn't need to go through long load screens just to shuffle items.

1 ReplyThey have increased that space since the first release. The problem is the coding issues. Us old gen guys puck it up. Not sure how, but that is what was said the last time they talked about uping the space in the vault. I am no coder so I am not going to argue that it makes no sense to me.

I agree with the management side of it, if they give me more space I will just hoard more, so I am okay with armor and weapon spaces. The thing that drives me crazy is the third storage in the vault. To correct the general vault space I would like to see shaders and emblems on a slider below the character or something along those lines. Shaders and emblems should be account bound, meaning once received it will work for all your characters and you won't get it as a drop again, and they shouldn't take up a storage slot. If you want to set a requirement,for the glow hoo for instance, then just grey it out until that character kills Crota. If they fix those two types of items I would be extremely happy.

I wouldn't be upset by more vault space for the future, but the current vault space is good for me. Considering how little ram the PS3 has, I am really surprised Bungie is able to get the performance out of the console that we see. It effectively has 256 MB of RAM for the game to use for general stuff, and a separate 256 MB for video rendering. That is an insanely small amount by modern computing standards.

1 ReplyMy question is why are so many spots reserved for armor. How many people keep armor in their vault. My characters have enough space on them to carry all the armor options I need. Why not switch some of those vault spaces over to weapon storage. Let's face it. You can tell right away if a new armor piece is better than what you already have. Being able to level and compare weapons is much more necessary than storing excess armor in my opinion.

Was all looking good until House of Wolves dropped, emblems, class items, new queens weapons, prison items plus Iron Banner dropping legendaries like crazy! I'm not good enough to go 9-0 in trials but all those weapons up for grabs would push me over the edge. Would like to keep the odd weapon to level up and tryout but don't have the chance, need the space in my vault too much to take up space with a split shifter pro that I might play with in the future. Too echo another post, I'm not a coder but seems hinky that they say it can't be increased. Vault is only accessible in the social space which must use a lot less processing power than most areas. We've had multiple giga sized downloads, to display and organise icons and assets that already exist doesn't seem like a big task. Possibly will come with Taken King but you will have to pay, a whole new set of raid gear and weapons will take up a whole lotta vault space

yeah I keep my vault pretty lean. I don't run with a huge amount of gear in my inventory. load outs app is pretty sweet for easy switching of gear in "sets" that you make. new DLC brings new weapons for new challenges. current vault size is good for my needs...
