Drop Rate Theory
I was talking with a fellow gamer at work and then had this thought. My warlock has crap luck when it come to drops, I am thinking it may be because this was my main toon to run with that I now carry a lot of exotics on it. This Friday I am going to test the theory out and only equip just 2-3 of each type of weapons and see if I can land the elusive Ghorn. Will update if I can confirm or debunk the theory for those that feel they are in the same boat as I.

4 RepliesI tried this last week and only had 2 exotics total on each of my toons. Ran it three times and came up with a wonderfully useless bullet hose legendary auto rifle the first time, a legendary shotty the second time and drum role, for the third time I got ten shards. This week, I've ran it twice and was pretty loaded on exotics. I got a pretty good legendary sniper and the ruin wings the second time. I'm starting to believe it really is all random and some coincidences make it seem like we have control over the drops. But hey, nothin is lost by trying and good for all you guys getting nice drops!

So far it seems to be working. I have been getting more drops of engrams and better drops in different activities. Still not sure if it is just my imagination but I feel that it is working. So tell me, if you are trying this out as well, how have your drops been?

1 ReplyI feel like there is validity to this theory. I don't remember where I heard this, (it might have been from one of the ride alongs)that drops take into account weapon types in your inventory. The last few weeks I put a lot of stuff in the vault and on to my seacond character and received what I would consider better drops. In the last few weeks I received. Patience and time two suros and the fourth horseman from nightfalls and even daily heroics. This week with fairly full inventories I got ten coins from the nightfall twice. Ugh! I feel like spending more time considering what you want to take into a mission and leaving the rest may help your chances. It is still obviously random but if it helps it helps. I think carrying only two to three items in each categories inventories would be a good set up. One exotic in each with one or two legendaries might be a good start.

13 RepliesSo, the theory is that running with less & crappier gear will improve chances of getting better drops? Sounds as good as any other theory I've heard. Kinda like that theory that dropping 5-10 bounties at once will improve chances of getting an exotic bounty. But, then others say "nope", it's random. I've done hundreds of bounties, and never gotten an exotic one. Then, I decided to do the "drop 10 at once" thing. Literally the next time I came to the tower (15 minutes later), I had an exotic bounty waiting for me. For me, as the Mythbusters would say (RIP Kari, Tory, and Grant), "Myth [b]CONFIRMED[/b]!"
