The Hardest piece of gear your grinding for

We all know that the hardest gear to get in the game right now is what drops in the raid. But, what is the hardest gear youve ever had to grind for? Im talking about when you make a change to your character and you sit and be like... shit if i change this then I cant wear that. WHat was your oh shit moment? Currently, I am having that moment. I have a level 28 hunter that wears the Mask of the Third man helmet however Xur, was selling the infinite Crest of Alpha lupi for hunters. For those who use this chest piece knows that it is beastly! I mean come on, reviving faster for other teammates and you get revived faster?!?! This is an extremely helpful during those raid crunches. BUt the mask of the third man and The crest of alpha lupi are both exotic. I realized that i needed to grind hard to get a sufficient legendary helm to replace the mask of the third man. After doing the math I realized that I was going to lose over 200 points in my intellect. This is purely unacceptable. So, i figured out I had to grind the crucible in order for me to buy a New Monarchy helm. Why new monarch? It has the intellect I was looking for and well.. i was already partially leveled to 1. After two days of grinding non stop to atleast level 2(which i got earlier today) and grinding the 91 marks that i needed in order to buy the helm(still need about 20 more) I have decided this was probably the hardest thing I grinded for.
