Ascendant Shards

Completed a weekly Strike on 10-13-14 for ishtar Sink, VENUS. And witnessed something amazing. Myself and two other guardians completed the strike and when the rewards screen appeared 2 guardians got "No rewards, But the other guardian that had not completed the strike yet received 8 Ascendant Shards. Has anyone else seen this happen? Or was it just random luck????
