How To Really Upset People:

Be positive. And no, I'm not joking. You wouldn't believe how many people I run into on a daily basis (both IRL and online) that get irritated at things like me smiling or talking to them with a bubbly attitude. And it disturbs me a bit. Let's forget the IRL part for now and take a look at the these forums. In the year and a half or so that I was here I've been shut down multiple times because of my "positivity." I've gotten comments from people saying "it doesn't exist" and "you're only doing it for attention." Apparently it's wrong to create threads that promote well-being and doesn't contribute to mental degradation. Apparently it's weird that I use smiley faces and that I say "haha" a lot. And there are a lot of people who legitimately believe that kindness doesn't exist online. I don't know, call me weird but it really does disturb me a bit. The reason I'm posting this is to bring a little awareness to the situation. It's OK to be nice. Maybe not overly nice to the point where people walk over you but there is a fine line between being positive and being fake and you shouldn't confuse the two. I recently got a PM from someone and I quote:
Why do you keep making positive threads? Seriously just -blam!- off we don't need any of your fake kindness around here
I won't mention any names but that really got me thinking. What do you guys think? Maybe I'm wrong? Maybe I need to go to bed and stop thinking these things late at night?

One of my (very bubbly) friends came back from a theater event and said the only thing the judge disliked was how happy she was when introducing herself prior to her monologue. So yeah, happens off the internet as well. Strange.

      • "Positive" can very easily come off as condescending over the internet. That's probably why.

                    • Frankly I can see why people would get annoyed by a constant bubbly attitude, it gets old rather fast and comes off as wanting dat attention. Not saying that is the case with you, but based on personal experience with a number of femmes, that's often the case, maybe I just prefer the reserved.

                      • If this is happening to you IRL, I think it's time for you to move. As for online, let's be honest, forums are no place to judge this and how people react. The majority of forums are filled with internet tuff guys and trolls. 99.9% of people that react one way on here would not do the same in person.

I do not disagree with what your saying here; however, when you make a comment like, "lets get away from political posts" or comments in general pushing the idea that political posts are bad for this sub forum, its not true. Just because you don't enjoy politics or don't have the intellect to understand arguments from both sides of the political spectrum doesn't mean you get to preach this idea of, what i see as, you being jealous of these posts. Your diction in you posts makes it seem like you think everyone looks up to you and that you are the savior of this sub-forum. I cant be the only one who gets this vibe...I have had many healthy discussions on politics furthering my knowledge through others rebuttals to me and agreements. Maybe you should try it out instead of making posts, "offtopic for dummies" clearing pushing an agenda to shut down the political, intellectual voices here.

I don't want to upset anyone, but I'm going to keep being positive because that's just how I am. I do want to add though, I don't think your positivity threads are the problem. If I'm honest, it's how you first came here and used pictures that weren't yours. I don't think you pretended to be someone you weren't, it's your personality, but the fake pictures is probably an issue still to some. I get some negativity on positive threads as well, which I can't say I've done in awhile, but it wasn't much at all, at least not enough to make an entire thread about.

                                • You are quite positive, which is good. People like you are enjoyable to be around. There appears to be a negative stigma lingering around you though, which is most likely due to your past on this site. You'll always see a "catfish" response on your posts. Maybe that contributes to it? I don't know, I'm half awake. Just keep being yourself regardless of what others might say. Don't allow trolls to break your stride. Some of us really appreciate the positivity.
