The Journey Home, Part 5: The Metal Men

Hello, everybody, here's part five of the Journey Home! Here's part four if you missed it, or, if you're looking for a different part, here's the table of contents! As usual, if you like it, give it a bump, and I'll get more out soon! Stay classy, Guardians! The two children ran through the forest, eventually coming to a small stream. They ran along its edge. “Did we loose ‘em?” Michael asked. Alesha looked back, not pausing in her stride. The Fallen broke through the trees, the vandals with their wire rifles, and the dregs with their shock pistols. “Nope!” Alesha shouted. She heard the sound of a wire rifle shot, and felt the heat sear her cheek as the bolt passed her. They ran for another minute, the Fallen in hot pursuit. Suddenly, Michael shouted in pain. Alesha stopped, and looked over at her friend. He was lying down on the ground, blood gushing from a massive wound in his leg. “Michael!” she shouted. “Run, Alesha!” he shouted. “Just run!” Alesha looked up. The Fallen were almost upon them. “Michael -“ “Just run, Alesha! Run!”
Alesha spared one look down at her friend, and then tore her eyes way from him. “Run, Alesha! Ru -“ Michael’s voice cut out. Alesha resisted the temptation to look back, and simply ran along the stream bank. She felt the tears welling in her eyes, and desperately to hold them back. “Just run, Alesha,” she whispered to herself. “Just run.” Suddenly, she saw a rock cliff in front of her. She skidded to a stop, and looked up. A small waterfall fell from the top of the cliff, forming the stream below. There was no way up the cliff - and no apparent way around it. Alesha turned around. Four Fallen had encircled her, cutting off any hope of escape. On her left was a dreg and the servitor, and on her right was the Captain and one of his Vandals. Alesha stared at the Captain. The four-eyed alien stared back at her, it’s blue eyes cold and unfeeling. He shouted something in Fallen, and his underlings began to advance. Alesha squeezed her eyes shut. Why didn’t I just stay inside the palisade? she thought. Then, she opened her eyes again. All of the sudden, she heard a massive whoosh, and the Servitor disappeared in a flash of light. The dregs’ head suddenly disappeared, and its body fell to the ground. The vandal reeled backward, several holes suddenly appearing in its chest. Both Alesha and the Captain turned to the right, and what they saw shocked them both. Alesha beheld what looked like a strange, metal man. In his hands, he held a rifle of some kind. Clipped to his waist was a massive hammer. Two more metal men emerged from the trees. One of them held a metal tube, smoke protruding from one end of it. The other one held what looked the gun that Oren had - he called it a sniper rifle. But the metal mans’ sniper looked to be in much better condition. The metal man with the sniper took aim at the Captain, but the one with the rifle motioned for him to stop. Then, he threw his rifle aside. The metal man took up a fighting stance, one hand held firmly behind his back. With another hand, he motioned for the Captain to come towards him. The Captain needed no more encouragement. Dropping his shock daggers, he rushed at the metal man. The metal man responded in kind. The two combatants rushed at each other. The Captain grabbed the man’s harms with two of his, and tried to punch him with the other two. The metal man responded by kicking the Captain in the chest, sending the creature sprawling. The Captain quickly leapt to his feet, and gazed at his opponent. The two combatants began to circle each other, each waiting for the other to make the first move. The Captain roared, and lunged at the metal man. The man dodged the charge, but as he did so, he grabbed the Captain’s arm, and twisted. Alesha heard the sound of tendons popping, and the Captain screeched with pain. His injured arm hanging limp at his side, the Captain turned back towards the metal man. The man quickly grabbed the Captain by the chest, and forced him to lean back. Then, he kicked the Captain’s knee in. Alesha heard a massive snap, and watched as the Captain’s leg broke open, bone jutting out of the open wound. The Captain bellowed with pain. The metal man let the Captain fall to the ground, where it remained, breathing heavily. The metal man nodded, and began to walk away. Alesha watched as the Captain grabbed one of his shock daggers from off the ground, and prepared to stab the metal man in the back. “Look out!” Alesha shouted. Quick as a wink, the metal man turned around, and grabbed the Captain by the wrist, stopping him mid-swing. The Captain and the metal man stared at each other. Alesha watched as the metal man slowly tightened his grip, and she heard the sound of bones cracking. The Captain began to shake, and suddenly, the knife slipped out of his grasp. The metal man once again let the Captain fall. The Captain lay on the ground, his eyes shut. His breath came in ragged gasps. The metal man watched him for a moment, and nodded. Then, he did the last thing that Alesha expected. He threw his head back, and laughed. “Bloody Hell!” he said. “I haven’t had a fight like that in ages!” Part 6
