Destiny:Legend Untold, Chpt 9 Pt 4

Chapter Nine: A Name, a Door, and an Angry Russian Part Four "Sierra, shoot the fuel on the ground!" I commanded. She looked to me and then the floor, realizing what I had in mind. The barrel of her fiery gun was now pointed towards the ground several feet away, and another stream of flame spouted from its muzzle. Everything lit up brightly with firelight. Flames spread quickly across the room and up the fuel-splattered legs of the Hive. Soon most of the room was coated in dancing fire and the agonized screams of the Hive died away. Sierra used her last shot to shoot a fuel tank that was near the door, causing it to explode and launch flaming fuel and shards of metal into the Hive that were waiting at the door where there had been no fuel on the ground. Our helmets filtered smoke out of the air, allowing us to breathe comfortably, and the temperature regulators in our armor kept us from getting very hot. But Hive shrank back from the smoke and flames, choked by the air and burnt by the lapping flames that merely left soot on our armor. A few Thrall did try running through, hoping that their tough bodies would resist the flames long enough to make it through, but they only made it a few steps before collapsing in an agonizing death. This success would be short-lived, however. As I watched, the sheet of flames began to shrink slowly, for the fuel was evaporating under the heat of the fire. I ran to my Ghost at the barrier. "How close to done are you, Henry?" I asked hurriedly. "I should be through in just a moment," he replied, "And Henry? Really?" I stood there, looking back and forth between my Ghost and the receding fire line between us and the Hive. Drew and Sierra were shooting down as many of them as they could through the building's openings. "Dave, Hank, Harold, Reggie, Dan, Rey, Andrew, Hector, James," I spouted out while my Ghost worked. "None of the above," the still un-named Ghost sighed, "And why all the "H" names?" "I don't know, I just went off of a random letter of the alphabet. And if you don't like any of my suggestions why don't you come up with a name for yourself?" I nagged. "I ran some possibilities whenever you first started trying to name me. Indulging myself with a self-created name seemed wrong, so I terminated that course and decided to see if you could come up with anything good," he explained. "Oh, well thanks for believing I can come up with a good-" I began. "So far, the results are disappointing," my Ghost interrupted, his shell scrunching around his eye in what looked like a disapproving glare. "Now that's just rude," I huffed. "HOW COME THE MOST ADVANCED PIECE OF TECHNOLOGY WE HAVE STILL HASN'T OPENED THAT STUPID DOOR!" Sierra roared, firing frantically into the midst of the Hive that were gathering on the other side of the ever-shrinking fuel puddle. "ASK THE ANGRY RUSSIAN!" my Ghost snapped. "Why couldn't we have found a happy Russian?" Drew whined. The rest of us went quiet at that, aside from the sound of Sierra's and Drew's guns firing, unable to respond to Drew's inquiry. A beep was emitted from the barrier's lock pad a few moments after we had gone silent. "I got it!" My Ghost cheered. The grate began rising up, not nearly as quickly as it had gone down. After a few seconds it shuddered to a halt, only a couple feet above the ground. Sierra and Drew had quit firing and come to the barrier to try getting through in the few seconds we had before the Hive were able to get across the room, and now stood with me, gaping at the ever annoying metal grate in our way. "You've got to be kidding me..." I muttered, then grabbed the bottom of the grate and pulled it up another foot. The three of us slid underneath and as we stood up on the other side heard the triumphant shrieks of the Hive. They were coming. "The grate, Drew!" I shouted. Together Drew and I grabbed the grate and slammed it back down, right as the legs of Thrall could be seen coming around the corner on the other side. The triumph turned to rage as the Thrall beat their claws uselessly against the thick plating. A collective sigh passed between all of us and my Ghost appeared over the keypad on this end. After a few moments of messing with it a red lock symbol flashed on the tiny screen. "That'll keep them from getting through, I doubt any of them are strong enough to lift it while it's locked in the down position," he said confidently after he had transmatted himself from the pad back into my armor matrix, "This is the only way to get to the Array controls on foot, so they shouldn't bother us anymore." "In other words, they're worse at opening doors than you are?" Sierra joked. Drew, John, and I laughed at that while my Ghost mumbled, "So mean." But he perked back up once we started moving again and kept us on course for the Array. We fought through only a few more rooms, mostly occupied by Fallen and old computer systems, before finding ourselves on an open platform looking out over a series of large structures that were bases for satellites, but one of which sported an absolutely massive satellite array. "Is that-" I began. "The Array," John and my Ghost confirmed simultaneously. _______________________________ Link to ToC:https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/212710816/0/0 Link to Chpt 9 Pt 3:https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/215289246/0/0 Link to Chpt 9 Pt 5 (last one!):https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/215289691/0/0
