Destiny: Legend Untold, Chpt 10 Pt 8

Chapter Ten: Class Rank Part Eight "Hey you," Bruno said, getting the large Titan's attention, "Is that the max weight you can lift?" "Not quite," he answered in a deep and resonate voice, "But I'm not able to do much more than several reps with it." "Good," Bruno grinned, then turned to me, "Get on the bench, squirt." The big man looked between me and Bruno as I sat on the bench without complaint. I would play his game. "Are you sure about this?" The large Titan asked. He was around a foot, maybe a little more, taller than me, and even Bruno was about half a foot taller than me. I was a couple inches shorter than many of the female Titans I had met, for even they were taller and more bulky than most non-Titans, and I looked like only skin and bone even with my bulky armor. "I'm sure," I nodded, "Worse goes to worst, I'll heal or be revived." "Alright," he said reluctantly, backing away from the bench to watch. As I laid back and put my hands on the bars, the Warlocks began making jeers about not being strong, and the Titans that hung around Bruno joined in. Bruno himself watched quietly with a smug grin, while the large Titan looked on with keen interest. Taking a deep breath, I focused my mind and drew a small trickle of power from the Void as I had been practicing the past couple of days. Power flowed through my veins as I lifted the bar from its resting place and brought it down to my chest. Before I knew it, the bar was up again and I did a couple more reps, only feeling the burn of my muscles working hard as I finally racked the bar. The jeering and taunting had stopped by that point and I sat up to see faces slack with surprise. Bruno seemed to be at a loss for words and the big man just shook his head in amazement. Then rage went over Bruno's face and he stormed up to the bench. I simply got out of the way and stood behind the bench as Bruno laid back on it. All of Bruno's lackeys started cheering him on, thinking he could do way more reps than me and that the big Titan had been fibbing. Bruno thought so, too, and lifted the bar out of place without caution. He barely caught the bar before it slammed down on his chest, and his face turned deep red as he struggled to push the bar back up. The other Titans grew hushed as they watched and started to only give occasional words of encouragement. Barely managing to get halfway up, Bruno's arms gave way to the weight they had been so unprepared for and the bar began its quick descent back down to his chest. But before the bar could slam down into Bruno's ribs, I lunged forward and caught it with both hands. Together we lifted the bar back up and racked it, Bruno rolling off of the bench with a heavy sigh and a still red face once it was over. He stood up straight after a moment and looked at me, trying to decide wether to be mad at me or thank me for helping. I went ahead and made the decision for him. "Do me a favor and take more care in the future, I wouldn't want to see you get in a tight spot on the battlefield," I told him with all the sincerity I could put into my voice, giving him a pat on the shoulder, "And always value your allies." A little confused by my sudden kind words, he nodded slowly. "Yeah, I'll do that," he replied. "I'll see you around," I said, starting to walk away. Bruno's gang was even more confused than he was, but hopefully if Bruno changed they would follow suit as they did now. The large Titan gave me a respectful nod as I passed, which I returned. Then I reached the Warlocks, who were disappointed that nobody had gotten their guts squished out. One of them opened his mouth, the smirk on his face making it obvious he was readying an insult. "Don't try to insult my intelligence," I spoke before he could make a sound, "You should read the book Ikora has on the utilization of time in wartime situations, you'll learn a lot from it." The Warlock's jaw stayed open for a few moments before snapping shut as I passed. I decided it was time for me to get out of the Tower and get some real practice with my newfound abilities. "Rush, please prep the Aurora Lance," I asked my companion. "Will do," his disembodied voice answered, "You're fun when you get feisty with people." "Don't expect me to act like that often," I told him. "Don't worry, I hardly expect anything from you," Rush laughed, making me smile. I had proven my place as a Titan today, but also as someone not to be messed with, no matter how much I had hated being rude. Finally having somewhere to belong filled me with joy, but something still didn't feel right. ________________________________ Link to Chpt 10 Pt 7:https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/217498113/0/0 Link to Chpt 11 Pt 1:https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/219174219/0/0 Link to ToC:https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/212710816/0/0 Sry for the long wait, I finished this several days ago but didn't hav wifi.
