Destiny: Legend Untold, Chpt 10 Pt 4

Chapter Ten: Class Rank Part Four Luckily, the flow of enemies began to ebb and we were able to get a bit of elbow room. Several Fallen would be up there with us at any given time, but we could now shoot at snipers and some of the incoming forces. But the Baron was still there, prowling in the back and issuing orders as more Fallen came out of the woods. "Rush, what do we know about this Baron?" I asked as I ducked a couple of Wire Rifle shots. "Nothing. I can't find any knowledge in the Tower's databases on this particular Baron, so he must have been promoted rather recently. But just so you know, Fallen who can achieve the rank of Baron have been through many battles and learned from each of them, making them commanders that should not be underestimated. They have grown in size and toughness from age and the increased Ether rations of the higher-ups," Rush warned me. "So we're dealing with something big AND smart," I grumbled. "Yes, and probably pretty angry that we're in his way," Rush stated. The sound of a tree splintering as it was smashed down and then the thud of it hitting the ground stopped our conversation. As we continued to fight the Fallen, who didn't stop coming when the noise began, the sound of tree after tree splintering could be heard and the tops of trees could be seen falling out of sight. After going through several trees, a large shape could be seen behind the final layer of trees. A large robotic leg busted through, knocking down another tree, and was followed by a second leg and the head of the vehicle. Continuing forward, the vehicle's six armored legs, rounded front end, large body, top mounted heavy cannon, and additional gun attachments could soon be seen. It was massive and had been able to push through the forestry with ease. Hatches opened up on its sides and glowing blue devices dropped out, bouncing out around it. After a moment they exploded, clearing the ground around the tank so it could maneuver better, and two larger hatches opened on its sides, pumping out a Shank from each. "Oh great," John groaned, "The Fallen Walker finally got here." "Is that what it's called?" I inquired, punching a Dreg over the ledge and back down to the ground below. "Yes," Rush answered, "They are remnants of back before the Fallen were pirates and scavengers, and are only used for important tasks because of their inability to create more." "We need to have a talk about Fallen history later," I told Rush. "Luckily for me, I haven't bothered picking up any information about Fallen besides the basics of their units and weapons, so I have nothing to talk to you about," Rush said victoriously. "At least books and computer databases don't complain about teaching me things," I sassed. "You know what? Why don't you just concentrate on not dying?!" Rush snapped. "You two are a perfect couple," Sierra laughed as we battled the Fallen. Even Crag snickered at our argument. But their amusement didn't last very long because the Walker turned the rapid-fire turret attached to the bottom of its round front at us, releasing an onslaught of Arc blasts at us. We all ran out of the way as the bolts made a trail of scorch marks across the ridge. Crag was separated from us by a group of Fallen that came up while the Walker was shooting, and they kept Crag from rejoining us while the Walker continued to force me and Sierra away. The Walker quit shooting to let its turret cool down, but immediately after stopping it moved into a braced position and pointed its main cannon at me and Sierra. A red beam of light showed where it was aiming and we sprinted away from the point that the light hit. Right after we bolted away, a rocket flew from the barrel of the Walker's cannon, causing the Walker to recoil a bit even in its braced stance. I nearly fell flat on my face at the force of the explosion behind me as the rocket hit. Looking over my shoulder, I saw that a large portion of rock and earth had been blown away and a large, scorched hole was now located where I had been standing only moments ago. Before the Walker could shoot at the two of us anymore, four rounds from Crag's rifle were shot at one of its forward legs, drawing its attention. "Shoot the legs to cripple it, then the core will be temporarily exposed," Crag told us calmly over the coms. While the Walker was busy firing its turret at Crag, Sierra pulled out a rocket launcher and I concentrated on the Fallen that were still climbing up. This was my first time seeing Sierra actually use her rocket launcher, which she called "the Sucker Scorcher", and I kept a close eye as she loaded in a clip of two shells. Getting on a knee for stability and putting the Sucker Scorcher up on her shoulder, she took aim at the middle leg on the side that was facing us. Fire erupted from the maw of her weapon as a rocket shot out at high speeds, sailing across the field to meet the Walker's leg and detonating in a flash of fire and shrapnel. The Walker's armor broke off of its central leg and it crumpled to the ground, but it was still operational. The rounded slab of armor that made up the vehicles front slid out to reveal a massive, glowing orange engine. We all concentrated fire on the core, only stopping to shoot other Fallen if necessary. Shanks kept floating out of the hatches on the Walker's sides and in front of the engine, trying to block our shots, so we weren't able to deal as much damage as desired. After a moment, the armor closed back up over the core and the Walker rose up again, sending out an energy pulse to repel any enemies that could've been close. It was still able to use the leg we had knocked the armor off of, but it was no longer a weak spot for us to target. Sierra used another couple of rockets, and combined with Crag's sniper rounds, we managed to take out another leg. The process of shooting at the core while taking out any Fallen that got in the way was repeated, and the Walker got up a little shakily this time. But this time, before we could attack another leg, the Walker turned its turret on Crag and its main cannon on Me and Sierra. Crag tried running, but took a Wire Rifle charge to the head and was taken down by the flurry of Arc bolts as they caught up with him. "Guardian down!" Rush cried out. While Crag had been getting chased down, Sierra and I were dealing with the Walker's other weaponry. The main cannon would not fire without the Walker facing its target and bracing itself, but there was an attachment on the rotating top of the Walker that fired large and concussive Arc blasts. As the Walker now began turning towards us, we were kept busy avoiding the barrage. But before long, a blast hit the ground right under Sierra's feet, sending her sprawling to the ground. The Baron was standing close to the Walker now, and as its main body finished turning to line up with its rotating cannon, he waved a hand in signal. Bracing itself to fire, the Walker kept its cannon trained on Sierra as she pushed herself up, shining its red targeting light right at her. As Sierra reached a sitting position and turned to face the machine, she looked down and saw the red dot marking her chest and sighed. "Son of a-" she began, but was drowned out by the sound of the cannon firing. _______________________________ Link to Chpt 10 Pt 3:https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/217494246/0/0 Link to Chpt 10 Pt 5:https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/217495787/0/0 Link to ToC:https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/212710816/0/0
