Paradox: The Dredgen Yor Journals 6

Hi, all! This is another facet of Rezyl Azzir/Dredgen Yor (gamer tag Basket34Ball) Paradox story, told from the perspective of James' rival Dredgen Yor in a series of journal entries. This only complements the series, so you won't get the full experience just reading this. This is a link to the Table of Contents: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/222610151?page=0&sort=0&showBanned=0&path=0 If you're ambitious, here's the first part to get you started: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/222438285?page=0&sort=0&showBanned=0&path=0 Hope you enjoy! __________________________________________________________________________________________ Entry 91 By order of the Vanguard unsolicited by subject. Hunters Dredgen Yor and Ana Bray are present inside the former's quarters. Yor is studying Hive-related texts while Bray leans on his desk, addressing him. Bray: Come on, Dredge, let's go! I never would have figured you for the bookworm. Yor: There's a lot about me you don't know. Hell, I've found out stuff about myself over the years I've been with you. Bray: Cute. But that's not going to get this mission done, so... Bray absconds with one of Yor's books. Yor: Hey! Yor rises and attempts to grab the text back, grabbing Bray's arm. Bray twists under his grip and snatches Thorn off his belt. Bray mocks Yor by holding the book away and twirling his gun before leveling it to him. Yor smiles, but is possibly forced. Yor: You know that thing isn't loaded, right? Bray: I thought this thing didn't run out of ammo? DUH, of course I know it isn't loaded. I'm not about to shoot my boyfriend in the face with his own gun. Yor: Wouldn't put it past you. You love to embarrass me. Bray smiles genuinely and hands back Yor's firearm. Yor visibly relaxes as Bray gathers the other books and places them on Yor's bookshelf. She takes a moment to examine the volumes. Bray: Wow, you really do have a lot here. Have you been collecting these since our mission to the Moon? Yor approaches Bray and embraces her from behind. Yor: Yep. That was our first mission together, remember? Bray: As I recall, you were pulverized by the Ogre's laser. Yor: Anything for you, babe. Bray: This isn't for me, Dredge. What you're doing with Hive magic is for you, and I don't even get what it's for anymore. You killed the Wizard. The whispers stopped. Why haven't you-- Yor releases Bray and returns to desk, settling heavily in the chair. He looks like he's trying to hold back tears. Bray steps up and rests her hands on his shoulders. Bray: Hey, sorry, didn't mean to sound so naggy. I'm just...curious, that's all. Yor: You've got nothing to be sorry for. Bray: Can you tell me what's wrong? If you don't feel like going on the mission, I can-- Yor: I gotta tell you something. Before we go. It's important. Bray walks around and sits on the desk, facing Yor. Bray: Yes? Yor sighs, looking to gather his thoughts. Yor: You know how Shrimp's been helping me with a journal? You ever wonder what it was about? Bray: Yeah, I knew, but I always thought it was because you weren't the squeakiest-clean Guardian in the Tower. Nothing serious. Yor: Yeah, well it became serious. I got corrupted by the Darkness. Bray expresses shock and concern. Bray: Oh my God. Dredgen...I don't know what to say. You don't seem that bad. Hell, I think you're better than before we were put on the same team. Yor: It's because I'm with you, Ana. I can't explain it, but whenever I'm with you I can keep the Darkness at bay. Shrimp's therapy sessions help, but I think it's only 'cause we always end up talking about you anyway. You help me, Ana...but I couldn't stand it if somehow you got hurt because of me. If...if you don't want to be with someone like me...I understand. Some days, I'd prefer it. I-- Bray interrupts him by holding his chin. Bray: You pushed me away once before, Dredge. Not this time. We're in this together now, and we'll fix it together. They kiss lightly. Yor sighs. Yor: I don't deserve you. Bray: You have a better chance than most. But you're probably right, I've got pretty high standards. I like a guy who can hold his own. The Darkness hasn't taken your edge off, has it? Join me for Doubles tonight. Yor: I like the sound of that... Bray: Crucible Doubles, dummy. We still have a mission to complete, too, so get a move on before I change my mind. Bray gets off the desk and leaves Yor's room. He watches her leave before addressing me. Yor: Shrimp, get me the new set of armor I've been working on. Very bony armor is transmatted onto Yor. It would be intimidating enough on its own if it didn't also emit green Hive mist. Yor follows Bray outside. End of entry.
