The Frontier: Part Two - Flames and Fireteams

Finally! The Frontier, Part 2, is here. I’m gonna fix some mistakes (Caras is actually Karas, sorry about that Liam) and start developing the arcs of these characters. For a little update, Cayde-6, hunter Vanguard, sent Fireteam Apex (Lyla, Orion, and Vulcan) to investigate rumors of Fallen activity. When they arrived, they found much more than they wanted to, discovering a tense confrontation between the active House Of Devils Sect, Known as Los Diablos, and the newly arrived House Of Winter sect, known as “Archon’s Claw”. The master post master post is right here (https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/224609724?page=0&sort=0&showBanned=0&path=0), so if you missed the last chapter you can find it there. Now, onto the story! Orion looked around at the scores of Fallen that were all looking at him and spun his knife deftly. "Shall we begin?" He unloaded his hand cannon on the fallen crews and called out for Lyla and Vulcan. Letting his light burn and channeling his super, Henry unleashed the power of the sun and summoned his Hammer Of Sol, erupting in Solar Light and roaring like a wild animal. With huge leaps and bounds, he landed in the Devil Crew and hit them like a hurricane. Lyla leap into the fray, twisting and leaping, and skewering Winter fallen on her bayonet, throwing them around like dolls. Orion saw Lyla running towards him and gave her a sideways glance, but then he realized. She jumped at him feet first, and he caught her, swung her around, and threw her at the Winter Walker. The warlock shone with Void energy, and after a second or two unleashed the fury of her Nova Bomb. The projectile soared towards the fallen walker and hit it like a collapsing star, nearly destroying one of it’s legs and overloading the core. Orion pumped his fist and activated his super, a shining Golden Gun, which he hit the Walker with. The machine stumbled drunkedly and fired at a large tree trunk, which creaked, groaned, and fell. Orion fired at the winter crew that were slightly in shock from the explosion, and had no time to react as the tree trunk fell on top of him. “Oh crap” Lyla said, tucking and rolling in the direction of Orion. Orion’s broken body crawled towards the log.“Just watch my ghost! I’ve got to he-” Orion said, his voice cut off by a fallen sniper. Lyla dove in front of the next shot and shot it in the head with her scout rifle. “Henry! Get over here!” Henry winced as a wire rifle pierced his shoulder and said “Got it!” He launched himself into the air with his Lift, and landed by ghost and guardian. “Don’t worry, I-” He paused at a sudden roar, as a fallen baron leapt from the top of the walker and shrieked at them in fury. “I’ve got to take care of this” he said, walking towards the fallen Baron. “Vulcan!” Lyla yelled. “TITAN!” she stopped. She sighed and watched, guarding Orion’s body as Spark tried to revive him. “He’s just hotheaded Lyla, don’t worry, he’ll be ok.” Karas growled in frustration as the Shal’r interfered. This had been going so well! The patrol had gone unchallenged, until that idiotic Baron stopped them, and he had done his job perfectly. These Dead Soldiers! He bared his teeth and then stumbled on his perch as the walker buckled. I must deal with this, he thought, and bellowed a challenge to the enemies on the ground. He jumped down, onto the ground, and stretched his fangs in a hideous grin as he saw the bulky, hotheaded Shal’r walking towards him. Good, time to thin the herd a bit, he thought. The two of them collided with a forceful *Thump*. Vulcan punched Karas, but the Baron’s thick armor prevented him from taking much damage from a simple punch. He kicked Vulcan in the stomach and slammed both of his arms against him, and then picked him up. Vulcan managed to ignite a fusion grenade and threw it blindly as the Baron slammed him against the hull of the Walker, making him wince in pain. The Baron growled and looked for Vulcan, and found him. The Titan slid between his legs and shot him in the ankle and the crotch with his hand cannon. The Baron roared, and shot Vulcan in the head with his Shrapnel launcher, stunning him. Karas lifted Vulcan over his head and slammed him on his knee, damaging his spine. Vulcan groaned in pain and shot Karas’ helmet, but it didn’t penetrate his head and just pissed him off more. Vulcan ignited another fusion grenade, and this time it stuck to Karas’ foot. It blew him off his feet and pushed him back a few meters, breaking his armor and burning his cloak. We must retreat, Karas thought, and let out a roar, followed by a series of clicks, commanding his crew. The Archon’s Claw understood, and moved forwards. Vulcan thundered towards the Baron, and was slashed in the back with a blade. He turned, and as he did an armored Winter stealth Vandal cut the air with it’s blades. Vulcan gritted his teeth and headbutted the Vandal, breaking it’s guard, and punched it. The vandal staggered, and the Titan cried out in pain as another fallen sniped him in his achilles tendon. He went on one knee, and gasped for breath, and then heard a familiar sound. The sound of a knife, cutting through the air. A stealth vandal shrieked as a knife lodged between its shoulder blades, and fell as a slim figure kicked the knife into it’s back. Orion headshotted it with his hand cannon without looking, and dodged a bullet from a wire rifle that made the air buzz with static. Orion picked off the sniper with pinpoint precision and stood by Vulcan. “Orion, I-” Henry said. “Henry, what the HELL were you thinking?!” Orion said. “Did you want to endanger the mission in favor of a good fight?!” Henry snapped. “I could have ended this!” He retorted angrily, gesturing towards the Claws’ and their master “But YOU let them get away!”. “At what cost? The mission? Our Lives? Our Ghosts?! Next time, you need to listen!” Henry silenced, knowing the argument was over. Cayde tapped into their network, not telling them he had heard what was going on. “Good work, guardians. It looks like you beat both of them back and sent them with their tails between their legs. Whoever their commanders are, we don’t know, but for now, head back to base.” Orion let out a deep sigh. “Henry… you said that Baron was their leader… what did they look like?” Henry said, quickly and coldly “It was missing an eye. He didn’t exactly tell me his name, you know.” Orion froze, and then continued like nothing had happened. “Come on, team. Let’s go home.” Henry seethed, jerking the stick of his ship quickly and jerkily. He thought that Orion would understand, that he could have ended the battle, but he didn’t. He wasn’t the legend he thought he was. Now, they got away. Deep within Henry, the embers of hate ignited. I hope you enjoyed this episode of The Frontier. I told you that I would be starting up the character arcs, didn’t I? Feel free to leave criticism/feedback down in the comments.
