Paradox: The Dredgen Yor Journals 3

Hi, all! This is another facet of Rezyl Azzir/Dredgen Yor (gamer tag Basket34Ball) Paradox story, told from the perspective of James' rival Dredgen Yor in a series of journal entries. This only complements the series, so you won't get the full experience just reading this. This is a link to the Table of Contents: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/222610151?page=0&sort=0&showBanned=0&path=0 If you're ambitious, here's the first part to get you started: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/222438285?page=0&sort=0&showBanned=0&path=0 Hope you enjoy! __________________________________________________________________________________________ Entry 28 Hm? Oh, sure, whatever, go ahead. Man, I tell you, if half of what this Toland guy says about Hive is true, then they're pretty bada**. They pretty much treat survival of the fittest as a religion, and look at death as the ultimate way to express their faith. In their hierarchy, the strongest must constantly prove themselves by overcoming and destroying the weak, culling it from the population for the benefit of the race. That's hardcore. It came from their dimension. The Ascendant Realm doesn't follow our laws of physics, and bends to the strongest Hive wills. They can carry this paracausality into our world, and that's how the Hive use their magic. They don't need complicated spells or ritualistic BS. They just make it happen. I wonder... Shrimp, make a target. Yeah, I'm gonna shoot in here. The book says that Hive artifacts have some of their magic with them. The bones that I put on my gun should be able to channel the magic, 'cause weapons have a special meaning in Hive lore. No, I don't really know what that means. Are you gonna help me find out or not? Make it something that could absorb the bullets if it bothers you that much, just do it alright? *A shot rings out.* What'd it do? Just a bullet? Huh. Thought it'd do more. What do you think. Yeah, yeah, dangerous, whatever. Cut me a break, will you? What does the book say? Will...Maybe...maybe I have...to want it to kill something. Will you quit overreacting? I'm just gonna try on the target again. Yes, I know I can't kill it, will you shut up? *Another shot rings out.* Whoa! Look what happened to the bullet! It's some sort of...spike. What's that stuff coming out of it? Poison? Man this is so coo-- SHH! Did you hear that? Do you hear it? I tell you, it's that voice again! Its whispering something about Phogoth, it was the witch's child, with a Hive Knight... No, I don't - I don't know how I know this. I know you don't hear anything, but...I'm not crazy! I've been hearing this since the Strike on the Moon. How do I know it's Hive? The voice has been saying the same thing that the book says, about the Hive's beliefs, their culture...No, it didn't tell me to look it up, I... I know. I know this isn't normal...Will you get off my back? I don't like it any more than you do! Yeah, you heard me right! I can't get a wink of sleep without this Hive b**** telling me about death, my "infidelity to order," how it's going to flay the Light from my friends. I hate it! And...and I can almost tell that it likes me hating it. The door's unlocked, you can come in. Oh, hey, Ana-- - Dredgen, what's going on? I thought I heard you shooting - is that a target? - Yeah, but it's nothing, I do it all the-- - You're kidding, right? I'm not stupid, you know. - Heh. No, you're not, sorry. I've...I've just been going through this Hive stuff. Learned some pretty cool things. - Dredgen, this doesn't have anything to do with that voice you've been hearing, has it? You need to chill out, the Strike's over. - No. I mean, no, it doesn't-- Shrimp, are you still recording? God, turn it off, alright? - Take it easy, Dredgen. We're both just worried about you. Being around Hive has done crazy things to Guardians in the past. - Yeah, but why me? Why would it single me out, not you? You killed the Ogre too. - You're...you're not suggesting you want me to be affected as well, are you? - NO! God, no. I'm just...it scares me, okay? This witch...it's like she's looking inside of me, finding something wrong. I don't feel bad, but every time I think about her and what she says, I just feel worse. - It's okay, Dredgen. You're alright. You're a good Guardian. This voice is trying to put you down. Don't let it. - What are you looking at? - Are you sure you're not feeling under the weather? Your eyes look a little bad. - What? - You might be coming down with something, that could be why you're feeling so crappy-- Dredgen, what's wrong? - It's that g**d*** witch! I know it! That tears it! I'm going back to the Moon and killing that monster and anything that stands in my way, if it's the last thing I do... - Anything, huh? What if I "stand in your way"? - You know what I mean. Try to stop me. - Why would I? I'm sure there's nothing wrong with killing another Hive. When do we leave? - We? There's no we. I'm doing this on my own. - Like hell you are! You're my teammate and friend. If you really think this will stop whatever's bothering you, then I want to be there. - Ana, this isn't a mission. This is personal. Xyor - the witch - has been saying what she'll do to us if we come back. If you think for a second that I'm gonna give her a chance to do any one of the horrible things she described doing to you, you have another thing coming. I...I can't see you get hurt, not over my problems. - Dredgen, you don't have to be so afraid on my account. I'm perfectly capable of keeping myself alive. But if it really makes it easier for you...Just come back better, alright? I'd hate for you to go through all that trouble and botch it 'cause I wasn't there to make sure you did it right. - Heh. You don't have to worry about that. Thanks, Ana. Shrimp, I thought I told you to shut it off, you little--
