Sierra's First Day Pt5

Part Five "Hey," I called curtly, and they finally stopped, looking to me in surprise. One was a woman, wearing a long robe and holding books in her arms, staring curiously at me with observant green eyes set in her dark-skinned and short-haired head. Second in the group was a man in bulky red and white armor with blue skin that seemed to glow faintly, his expression remained stern and rigid as he observed me with sharp blue eyes. Finally came a man made of blue and white metal with a horn attachment protruding from his forehead, wearing light armor as well as a brown cloak. "Yes, Huntress?" the woman asked, taking in the knife that now rested in a holster on my hip. "Well the Vanguard noticed me, can I leave now?" I asked John impatiently, not caring that the three people before me were within hearing range. "Now there's someone who wants to get back in the field!" the robotic man laughed, then addressed his two comrades, "How 'bout you guys let me go with her? Let me just stretch my legs for a little bit?" "No, Cayde," the woman and blue man responded sternly at the same time. "Worth a shot," Cayde griped. "I take it you are a new Guardian?" the woman tried to question me again. "Yep, just revived Sierra here earlier today," John answered for me, "Ran into some Devils, found a ship. Man you should've seen how angry they were when we-" "Quit rambling, John," I interrupted him. "Welcome to the City then, Sierra," the woman properly greeted us, "I am Ikora Rey, Warlock Vanguard." "And I am Commander Zavala, Titan Vanguard," the bulky man followed after Ikora, "The City has gained another valuable asset with you today." "Yeah, no one cares," Cayde cleared his throat, making me wonder how that worked for robots like him, "I'm Cayde, or Cayde-6, whatever...I don't really wanna be here right now so I'm just gonna-" "Cayde, you're not leaving this table until we finish our discussion prior to Sierra's arrival," Zavala stated irritably in his deep, resonate voice, finally seeming to become a bit less monotone. "Fine mom," Cayde muttered bitterly in defeat. "You are a Hunter, are you not?" Ikora inquired, making sure her earlier assumption wasn't wrong. "Yes," John responded quickly, again not allowing me to speak, "You should've seen her when I first found her. She was all like "who am I?", "where'd this knife come from?", "why am I not wearing anything?". Absolutely helpless." Taking another swat at John and missing, I failed to prevent him from finishing. "Helpless?" I scoffed, "Tell that to all the Fallen laying dead back in the warehouse." "You fought naked?" Cayde asked, suddenly very interested, "Where'd the armor you have now come from?" "You should've seen how red her face was!" John exclaimed, "And luckily for her I kept my eye open and noticed an armor cache just in time to save he-WHOAH!" Finally managing to catch John, I shook him violently and he quieted down as distortion settled in. "This little pervert here," I growled, shaking John a bit more, "Had armor for me the whole time but didn't give it to me until I was about to get gutted." "You fought naked!" Cayde went hysterical, "Wish I could've seen that!" My glare moved to Cayde, seeking to melt a hole through his little tin head. "To see how the Fallen reacted!" Cayde covered quickly, sighing with relief as my eyes moved back to the Ghost trapped in my hands. "We could try to reenact if you'd li-" John was cut off with a squeal as I tried to crush him. "Not again!" I scolded, but to my dismay John transmatted out of my hands. "As I was saying..." Ikora continued hesitantly, "Since you are a Hunter, you will report to Cayde on all of your ventures outside the City, as he is your Vanguard." With a confused expression I looked to Cayde, shocked that I would have to spend time with him and by the fact that he had somehow managed to get an important position. Cayde noticed and gave me a wink, making me turn away with an angry red glow to my cheeks. Pivoting on my heel, I began striding away from the table and it's occupants. "Wait! You forgot your Hunter cloak!" Cayde yelled after me. "Just send it to me," John called back, appearing just behind me as I walked, "She's not in a good mood right now." "We will call when you are needed, Sierra," Zavala's voice carried across the hall to my ears easily, "Until then you may fight when and where you please." "Maybe I'll come back here and fight that stupid blue can," I muttered grudgingly so they wouldn't hear. "I take it back, you're ALWAYS in a bad mood," John sighed. With no real plan on where to go at the moment, I found myself standing at the railing of the Tower's edge, gazing out at the Traveler and the City below. After a couple minutes, I felt a weight settle on my shoulders and turned my head to find John had materialized a simple grey cloak over me, it's cloth sweeping just barely above the ground. Pulling its hood over my head, I thought back on the Vanguard and what they had been like. I thought about the mechanical scoundrel that had given me this cloak and tried to get off work. Maybe Cayde wasn't all that bad. _____________________________________ I hope u all enjoyed my latest tale and are looking forward to the next chapter of my main story. The wait has been excruciating for me as well. Light be with you, Guardians.
