Destiny: Legend Untold Ch 13 Pt 2

Chapter Thirteen: Pimples, the Acne-Ridden Part Two Engines humming, our Sparrows carried us through the Anchor of Light and down a rocky trench way to the place my twin Guardian had reportedly first encountered the Hive. We reached a narrow, elevated pass and had to dismount our Sparrows to continue, soon coming out into a wide space that ended the trench. A Hive doorway was dug out of the stone and hung open, exposing the beginning of the endless halls that led down into the dark. Acolytes milled about in front of the gateway to the depths, but their attention was oddly turned inwards. "Let's get closer, then hit them hard while they don't expect it," I instructed. "You got it boss," Drew nodded, then turned to face the enemies across the way from us. Much to my surprise, and clearly to Sierra's as well, Drew began to sprint forward while shouting in excitement for battle. Turning to face the colorfully adorned berserker that rushed towards them, the Acolytes began raising their weapons to put him down. But before more than a few bolts could be fired off from their Shredders, Drew bounded up into the air and came down with electricity crackling all over his body. Drew's fists smashing the ground with a column of lightning signaled the silencing of the Hive's weapons, and the warrior stood up amongst the flying sparks of his attack after a few moments, no opposition left for him to face. "What the heck was that?" Sierra spat as we walked up after Drew. "I got closer and hit 'em hard while they didn't expect it," Drew answered simply. I heard Sierra take a breath to respond, but after a moment of silence she released it, no words coming to mind. "Drew, I meant for us to sneak over," I explained. "Ooooooohhhhhh," Drew mulled that over, "I see. Oopsy daisies, at least I got them all." "Good job Drew," I patted his shoulder and began to move towards the Hive doorway, but halted in my tracks at the sight of a limp form laying amongst the grey dust. Rushing over, I kneeled next to the body of a fallen Titan and felt for a pulse. ...nothing... This Titan was long dead, and I bowed my head in respect as I silently wished for the Guardian to rest peacefully. Sierra and Drew came up to my sides and looked down at our fallen brother sadly. "Remember how the Guardian who opened the Moon to us reported that the Titan scout had died at the foot of a Hive stronghold, and that the Titan's Ghost was found dead inside?" I asked my comrades. Sierra rested a hand on my shoulder. "They gave their Light so others could pierce this Darkness," she assured me. "Went out like a true Titan," Drew acknowledged, "Facing off the enemy head on." "Let's make him proud," I stood with a shaky breath, readying my rifle. Together we moved on down the dark stairways of the Hive, seeking an end to their evil. Few Hive stood in our way, and like the first group we had encountered they were all focused inwards, some even seeming to be moving in as reinforcements for some threat besides us. Is there really another Light down here? Another Guardian who responded to the Speaker's call? I mused internally. Whatever the case, we eventually found our way to a massive chamber holding a dormant Hive Seeder. A hoard of Thrall and Acolytes backed by a few Cleaver-bearing Knights left the cavernous room just as we peaked around the corner, but a large swarm still remained. They looked like they were about to charge in as well. Ash and bone from dead Hive were scattered across the floor, and I got the feeling that letting the Hive reinforcements slip away would result in the loss of whatever Light was down here with us. "Oh boy," Drew got excited at the sight of the Hive before us, "Looks like they ordered some back up." "Let's cancel that order," I grinned. The three of us charged out with guns blazing, drawing the Hive's attention away from whatever lay deeper down. There were Wizards and Knights amongst the ranks, roaring and shrieking to get the Thrall and Acolytes around them moving. The first few groups fell in sheets of shrieking dust, none making it to us until a few dozen had fallen before. A Thrall approached me, and in response I flung out my open hand to send a pulse of Void energy at it. But nothing happened, and I had to sidestep the Thrall and slam my gun into its skull to put it down. Another Thrall came and I punched it out of the air, a Force Barrier forming around me after contact. With frustration I glared at my fists and let my Force Barrier fade away. "No, not Defender, Voidwalker!" I scolded my own Light. Another Thrall leapt at me, but was shot down by Sierra. "Head in the game William!" she commanded. Hearing Sierra's voice, I remembered her earlier theory and took a moment to focus on what I was doing. My Light was burning warmly within me, flowing calmly and how I wanted it to through me. That wasn't what I desired right now. With an effort, I let my hold on the power slip and felt my Light surge within me, roaring like a storm throughout my body and drawing energy out of the space around me that it converted into Void. The shriek of a Thrall caught my ear, and I flung my arm out once again as my eyes snapped open. Caught in a moving wall of Void, the Thrall was sent backwards through the air, crumbling into nothing before touching the ground. My attention turned to a pack of Acolytes pressuring Drew as he flung some Thrall across the room, smashed the bones of others, and shot the Hive not surging to meet his heavy swing. A Scatter Grenade flew from my grasp, sparking out into many shards of energy that obliterated their targets in an instant. Next came a Knight, charging me with a swing from its Cleaver that brought the blade straight down from above its head. Nimbly stepping to the side, I dodged the blade but stayed closed enough to feel the air part next to me. The blade buried itself into the ground, and before the Knight could lift it I shoved my elbow into its neck to send it stumbling back. After a few moments the Knight's ashes fell to the ground with several bullets mixed in, and I took the hilt of the Cleaver in my hand. The blade was taller than me and made from a combination of bone and metal, yet I was able to wield it easily despite its weight. Using it, I cut through Thrall and Acolytes, the blade seeming to seek out its prey as I swung it with a two-handed grip. Hearing a roar as Sierra, Drew, and I kept cutting down the few remaining Hive, I turned to face another Knight. Its Cleaver swung around to meet mine, and we exchanged a few blows before I landed one that sunk deep into its side. But the Hive warrior kept fighting and I found myself blocking another slash from the Knight. At that moment I noticed a humming noise to my side and turned to find a Thrall with a glowing teal skull slowly prowling up to me. It clutched its body as if embracing itself, giving the impression of holding something in. "THAT EXPLODES!" Rush's warning crashed in on my ears. Eyes widening in realization, I flung my weight to the side, away from the Thrall, causing the Knight I had been blade locked with to fall between me and it. An instant later, the glowing Thrall shrieked and combusted in a large explosion that sent dissolving chunks of its body everywhere. The Knight was reduced to ash and I was launch backwards from the force of the explosion, landing several feet away on my back. "Cursed Thrall, very dangerous if they get close," Rush described as I sat up, groaning with pain. But my Light quickly restored my body and I was back up and shooting within moments. We had circled around the Seeder taking up the center of the room, and now only a few Hive remained. Two Wizards and the last Knight fell to the fiery streaks of Sierra's Golden Gun, dissipating in showers of glowing embers. The last few Hive stood with their backs to the doorway leading further into the depths, the final Wizard gliding above them expectantly. My eyes met the Wizard's and I paused a moment, the ancient sorceress seeming to analyze me in the same way I analyzed her. A massive roar sounded from the depths, causing both the Hive and my team to stop fighting for a moment. It was close, and it sounded angry. Only moments later, a smaller roar answered, this one coming from behind me. The Wizard began to laugh, her shrieking voice hurting my ears. I turned to face the monstrosity that had stepped out from the entrance we had gone through earlier, taking in its scarred and swollen form as well as its eyeless, sore-covered head. "Ogre!" Sierra cried out at the sight of the beast, "Scatter!" _______________________________________
To all of you readers out there who have lost someone you know: keep fighting for them. Keep going to honor their memory and the Light they brought to the world, just like William and the others did for the fallen Titan. I've lost a couple people I know in these last few weeks, so I want you all to know you're not alone, no matter how far you journey into the Dark.
