Firefly/Serenity Thread
Spent the last two months or so finishing the series. Currently watching Serenity.
Is it just me or is the series extremely overhyped? Don't get me wrong, it was a clever show and I really enjoyed it, but there was nothing overly fantastic about it, at least in my mind.
I am fond of the characters and their dynamics with one another, and I only wonder how they might of developed if given the chance for a second and maybe even third season.
Oddly enough I watched serenity when it came out back in '05 and I thought it was pretty good, so watching the series was kind of neat in prequel form.
So, opinions?

While I certainly agree that the hype is a bit high for it, I still say Firefly was one of the better sci-fi series I've seen. Characters were great, the universe was pretty cool, and the action hit the right chord between sci-fi and western (two genres that I do enjoy quite a bit). Going back to the topic of hype, I'm pretty sure most of it comes from how prematurely the series ended. Sure, it may not be that remarkable of a series when one steps back, but the fact that it ended before fans had the chance to get tired of it really fanned the flames that made it such a big deal in the sci-fi community. All in all, really fun series made by a very talented director.

I didn't think it was groundbreaking, but it was still very enjoyable all the same. It really seemed to hit its stride in the last couple episodes, so I was disappointed that the only closure for the series was Serenity. Serenity is good too, but to me it had an air of being a crude patch on an unfinished story.

I couldn't get into Firefly. Western style anything doesn't interest me at all. I did watch Serenity and thought it was OK though. Still doesn't beat out Battlestar Galactica in my mind :P

They even made the movie coz the fans wanted closure if im not wrong. Eitherway its worth watching even for an older sci-fi the humor and drama are still very enjoyable. Lately I feel they're just pumping movies out coz its predecessors scored a big hit like spiderman or transformers, eventhough its pretty to the eye with all the special effects sometimes a good movies with good stories pop up. Forgive me for stretching the topic a bit xP

I cranked Firefly out on Netflix about a month or two ago. I really thought it was great. I've never watched the other one.
