Looking to join up with a team/s

Excuse me if i offend as i haven't done anything but solo yet. Do you send out lots of friend requests and then if you are online with 3 -6 players at the same time then you join up and raid? I realize i sound like a Noob but i have put in quite a few hours ( almost 8 full days worth) but only soloing. I am at the stage where i want to participate in VOG and Crota and maybe ToO, i am a Lv32 Titan with a Grim score of 2570. I am mostly on line late evening but i have some time in the day at weekends if home from work early. One problem is that i don't have a Mic, reading through some other posts on here i see some people may not entertain my request due to that.
