Last night, I was finishing up my Atheon kills on all my characters to end the week.
First two went smoothly, then I went on my 32 hunter and found a random team. (yes shoot me I don't have friends on all the time)
The team consisted of 3 32's 2 31's and a 30. I should not have assumed, but did that at least 2 people will be able to handle the relic. Turns out, we spent an hour and never got it done because I was teleported once everytime, the second time the relic holder always died.
As a 32, you should be able to handle the relic on atheon and on the templar. Some of you might say "but we never get the chance to". Go into normal mode and train yourself.
Some of you also might say "oh ha, scrub you should get him in one go anyway". Tell that to the people that think word of crota/plan c is doing a lot of damage on Atheon.
Point is, 32's AND 31's AND 30's should be able to or at least try handling the relic. It's not really that hard.
What do you guys think? I want to hear your thoughts on those that have had the same problem as me or from the people that haven't learned how to use the relic.

Totally agree. People dying in VOG on basic shit like supplicants! You know where they spawn from, so why are you dying the first turn? So over basic bitches!

Edited by DragonFury: 2/9/2015 8:59:44 PMThink that's bad? Try having people go down the center after the templar. Count how many in the fireteam that will say "This is my first time going this way." Just sit back and watch the death fall. On topic tho. I agree. I generally get a good idea of who has experience when we're attempting the conflux part. If they can't do that part without having to be told what to do, then I won't trust them with the relic at atheon.

Some people don't like the pressure. The aim of a raid is team work. But VoG can be 2 manned so maybe just do that. Cuts out the fat >.<
-
You know you can be a 32 without ever stepping foot in VOG right? You can also be a 32 without having ever beat Crota's End legit. A lot of people made 32 during the cheddar era Don't ever assume a player is good To assume makes an "áss" out of "u" and "me"

Edited by baldbean: 2/9/2015 7:21:41 PMI think it depends on the number of times they have run the raid and not necessarily the level number. People could have only done Crota and skipped VoG so being a 31 has no relevance to being able to handle the relic. Now if VoG was needed to reach 31 (no vendor gear) then I could see this being true. They would have forced people to raid which would have eventually given them time to learn the mechanics. Another thing is when you are new, the last thing people want is a new guy running the relic. They just want to hurry the F up and move on to bitching about the drops they didn't get or have gotten repeatedly. The majority community has no patience with new people. I ran into this issue the other night. We had 3 new guys a person who was leader and me (i have only run it a few times). We needed a 6th so we came to the forums for help. My experience each time was shoot the oracles in previous runs because I was new. In those runs when I asked to run the relic to learn, they all said no because they just wanted to get it over with. Which Is understand, but they hindered me learning to use it for future raids. So we find a sixth on the forums and explain we have some inexperienced people. He moans and says "oh god" very condescendingly and I tell him, "We are going to wipe several times so if he would like to leave its cool, no hard feelings". He stays so we carry on. We wipe several times and he just starts talking trash and yelling. "Its not F-ing hard, some one grab the relic and other people shoot the oracles". The new guys were so over this and just stopped grabbing the relic because they didn't want to be talked shit to and now probably want nothing to do with the relic. Some people can't take pressure, and other just lack patience. He eventually left along with the other new people. It was a sad day, 4 potential relic holders gone with very little chance of rehab.

Initially, being the Relic Holder seems very difficult, once you pick it up and understand what R1 and L1 are best used for its so simple it makes you look like a fool.. I was once the same...
-
Cool biography there, bro. You know they turned your story into a movie, right??!

Everyone should be "able" to hold relic now the question is whether they want to or not. Holding the relic at Templar is always fun and I enjoy it more than the DPS side. Joined a group last night on my hunter and completely forgot I just got to 32 and they constantly deferred to me to run the relic. Thankfully I gained relic experience my first few runs. Now I just need some sword experience for Crota and I will be good to go.
-
I think you should have to unlock the 30+ gear by gaining a full set of VOG gear. That way people gain experience and you know that anyone over 30 has the experience. It frustrates the hell out of me when I end up in a team of 30+ and have to explain to them what to do. You shouldn't even get taxied into a hard mode raid until you've completed it on normal.
-
People just need to prepare themselves better. It's like studying before a test.. You can float through it and hope you pass, or you can go to youtube, watch a couple videos, and guarantee you know what you're doing(for all roles). Holding the relic isn't hard. Holding the sword isn't hard. It just take good communication, and working with your timing.

Ran hard mode with a group the other day in which none of us had ever held the relic before at the templar. I decided to give it shot, and it took me a couple tries to figure it out, but we got it on like the 5th try. its not too bad at all, just gotta have people who are willing to give it a shot and others who are willing to be patient.

Lvl doesn't dictate skill. Most my friends are far more active on the game, but I still perform as good if not better than them.
-
If nothing else practice with the sword from knights of crota or practice with the sword of crota mission on 30 (often a daily heroic anyway) It's not exactly the same but close enough to get comfortable with the basic controls and movements.
-
So many of you will never know the struggle of having to hold the relic on hard as a 29.
-
I've had this problem with pickup groups before, where I was the only one experienced/willing to handle the relic. By the time we got to the Gatekeeper I had to teach one of the guys but we got through it. Atheon was tough, we wiped several times but finally got it when me and the other guy had runs where we were teleported each time. A lot of the high level people with relic experience have probably either stopped playing or don't run the vault anymore.
-
I totally agree. I hate when these 32s think they're good but can't do shit and stare at the relic whenever they get teleported. Exactly, go into normal mode and practice. It's not even that hard. I hate god damn scrubs who get carried.
-
I have the worst luck with recruiting. 31s who don't know what to do on VOG at all. gonna start kicking people who don't have at least 1.9k grimiore score...
-
Some people are new, others are just plain bad.
-
Man I'm a 31 and I'm embarrassed when I have to explain I just don't have dem relic or sword skills. Every time I raid it's not like the people have the patience to wait for me to learn. I'm always with such high strung dudes who are freaking out BEFORE waiting on me to figure something out. So I just do what I'm good at... Shooting stuff... I really want a good, nice team to play with.
-
i learned on my own, in a team when no one knew how to use relic back in the day. just remember jump rt get close rt forget about rb. then when even one is yelling.lol I CANT SEE. then get close to them and hit lb.. hoping that they are at least shooting at the big bright light.. this was when you were lucky to have a level 30 in your group..
-
Disagree. Some people just aren't as skilled. I handle the relic every time I play, but my dad also plays with our crew, and while he's great at holding a position, he doesn't have the controller coordination to do the maneuvering that's required by a relic carrier/sword bearer. He stills adds a ton of value to the fireteam and is a good communicator. I'd take him on any fireteam, any day. You have to learn to maximize the strengths of the people on your team if you want to be a leader. I'll never give up the opportunity to play with some of my friends from RL, or my dad, so I'm happy to take care of the tougher parts for them. The game is intended to be just that,... a game.
-
Not everybody spends all their time doing the raids.
-
That's why I think you should be able to reach 32 without cheese, but alas it wasn't to be.
-
if you have trouble hitting right trigger, jumping, and holding left bumper to cleanse or to shield everyone, you got some issues....
-
Not if you cheesed your way to 32
-
Yeah. I've 3 31's. still working on a 32. I can handle the relic just fine. I played with a group Friday night and we spent an hour on aetheon alone and never finished it. 32's should have no problem. However, I am still looking for an opportunity to run the sword. Most people just wanna rush through it or just recruit a sword bearer for the raid rather than learning to do it. I'd like to learn myself. Anyway. Point is that you don't have a choice on aetheon so, keep that end game in mind.
