We have several blanket nerfs to various weapon classes because of a few lone guns within those specific categories. Everyone with a brain knows that each of the weapon classes you are nerfing have some strong spearheads in Crucible: The Last Word and Thorn (HC), Vex Mythoclast (Fusion), and SUROS Regime (Auto). I present to you (Bungie), and the community, the following two questions:
Why blanket nerf as opposed to nerfing the primary offenders?
Why are you "balancing" the entire game based solely on Crucible? (This isn't Halo; Co-operative PVE is a MAJOR part of Destiny)

They didn't nerf them just because of the exotics. Why would they nerf hand cannon's ranged effectiveness based on the Last Word, a hand cannon whose worst attribute is range? They're nerfing auto rifles because they're still a bit too effective at range, and they're used so much more over everything else. They're nerfing hand cannons at range because they're currently just about as effective as scout rifles at range, which is not the intended design. Hand cannons are supposed to be for closer range precision, and scouts are for longer range.
